Yes beach...A vinegar/water rinse and it will be just fine..
Provided you havent used it for oil changes

No, but I wouldn't store water for my fish tank in plastic that wasn't HDPE.

Kind of a strange choice, and a little small.

Looks like HDPE has a #2 recycling code on it.

2 things to think about

1. Is there a window to see the water level?
2. Are the holes large enough to fit the pump?

You need FDA food grade for this hobby or risk the consequences of overseas plastics leaching dangerous chemicals into your hobby. Play it smart. Use what the experienced pros use. :beer:

Not that there is anything wrong with the container he has pictured, but why not just hit Home Depot and grab a food grade 5g bucket for $7... Nice shiny white and you can see if there's any crud getting into it against the background

IMHO, it will be perfectly safe for use even if it wouldn't be my first choice. I prefer something clear so I can see at a glance when it needs to be refilled.

I use my old salt bucket and put it in sump. Free more or less.

Thanks guys. I picked this container because it fits perfectly for my application. The IceCap pump fits in there and I just refill it once a week. Hold 2.5 gallons and the ATO pumps about a gallon in a week.

Very cool way to utilize that container, I was confused as to why use it for an auto container but once I saw it in the drawer it all made sense
