This One Goes Out To All Those Whos Wife Said NO!!!

Cut the two shelves!!!!

Cut the two shelves!!!!

Ok so i cut the two shelves i will be building from eggcrate tonight. I positioned them staggared ( one higher than the other ), to hopefully keep big fish to one and little to the other. My rock will actually take the rock halfway up the tank. I think it will be good as well cause most my rock will be elevated off the sand.

I am considering an eel, but have no clue of the bioload they use up. Anyone with expiriance in eels???

I am getting so pump cause in a few months i can start cycling this bad boy... Here are some pics of the shelves...

It has been a freaking long journey with this tank. We have been through good times and bad times, and almost even a divorce.

I must admit i am a horribly impatient person, and as we all know that does not work in this hobby. I fortunatly have a cousin who shoots straight with me even when he knows i dont want to hear it. Sometimes i end up hating him in the process of things and then extremely happy when i follow along with his advice.

I actually listed this tank for sale a few weeks back on my local reef club website. I got a good offer for a non tank related item and was about to capatalize on the offer, in hopes of getting a 65 gallon tank (aka the divorce or me and my 150). After spending about an hour in the garage with the tank i decided i had come to far, and put in to much time with this tank just to give her up so easily. I must admit i got cold feet to leap into such a grand tank after keeping only a 29 gallon.

With all that said i have found my center and decided to press on with the build. All that i am lacking as of now is the plumbing, part of the lighting, flow, and sand. I would say build wise i am a good 97% done, just have a few loose ends to tie up.

My lighting has been a struggle, i orginally was going to go with three 400 watt metal halides, 4 36" t5ho actinics resting in a DIY canopy. After finishing much of the canopy i decided i wanted to no have one for this tank, and that really messed with the lights i had bought. My cousin suggested that i by lumenarc reflectors and use as pendants, but i felt i didnt want anything hanging from ceiling. So with that i found a guy on craigs list selling an older hamilton fixture 72" with three 400w halides and 2 72" vhos. I got the canopy from the guy and it was in less than satisfactory shape. I only gave 175 for the fixture so i figued i could paint and make it look better. After hooking it all up and the wife approving of the look i found that only 1 light worked out of the halides. Thankfully the guy made it right and gave me my money back. I have now ordered two 250w fixtures from aquatraders.com and will order a third later this month. Each fixture is 24", so i would like to build a modern looking light rack that will hang just abouve tank that i can also use to add in some actinics to later down the road.

So in short me and the tank are back together and doing better than ever, i just had to refocus and find my patience again to keep going. I know in the end this will have been the wiser decision, and again thanks to my reefing support possibly a futer totm.

2 of 3 lights came in

2 of 3 lights came in

Ok.. So two of the lights came in from aquatraders, i must say i am impressed by the looks of the product and the quality. I was very skeptical due to the only input i had was third party who said they were "cheesy". As i stated abouve i got two of the three 250 watt fixtures with 8 moon lights in each.

In a testing mode i put this over my 14 gallon biocube thats been up for about a year now. Here are some shots.

oneoffcustom, as for your title not all wives despise the addiction to reefing......... in my house it's the opposite! I pleaded with my fiance to let me go big.... He told me I had more love for my Bubble Mangus Protein Skimmer than I had for the ring he bought me........ I am in the process of getting my wish we are going to merge his "man room" with my dream in-wall set-up! We came to an agreement! He could have his bar, pool table & stupid huge tv if I got insanely large in-wall set-up in his man room!

wow i envy this man, lol, but seriously!!! I guess the title should have read For all the people whos partner said no. lol.. you get what i mean.. congrats on the upgrade...

Everything was sold... I didnt lose intrest in hobby, just did not have the luck i would have hoped. I still keep fresh water fish just not saltwater for the time being. I actually own one large dovii and thats it currently.

sorry
