Wow. I did the same thing just a few weeks ago. Used the hot water from the sink and a knife to clean palys off a rock. Then put the rock in boiling water to get any I missed. It definitely smelled nasty. Didn't realize the airborne effects. Lucky he went in for treatment.
 
Palytoxin is no joke! Protective eye gear, gloves, and keeping your mouth closed are great ways to protect yourself but now I guess you have to avoid the steam! Glad to see he is healing!
 
What would one use for respiratory protection? I'm thinking a painters mask may work. I'm talking serious automotive painting masks with activated charcoal cartridges.
