Thoughts on low turn over on a ~260 gallon

I don't want to run a huge pump that will consume a whole lot of energy and might have to deal with micro bubbles. I plan on supplementing circulation with Tunzes and Vortechs. What's the lowest turn over I can get away with, pump recommendations? 1.5" drain but I can probably cut that back to accommodate as well. Thoughts? Thanks.

Tran383,
I don't have that large of a system, but have in the past. I am not into HUGE flow from the sump to the tank, that is why they make tunze and vortechs! I want as much time as I can get for the skimmer to do its job. I have 2 x 1 1/2 drains I am putting about 1000 GPH though it and it is like I am putting 10 gallons per hour, you can EASILY put 1000 GPH at 1 x 1 1/2".

Any chance you guys would have plumbing pictures, esp. of tanks with drilled drains on the back on the tanks rather than below. Thanks.

this is interesting, i'm running a 180 with sump, total water volume - 700ltrs.
i'm useing 2x oceanrunner 3500 returns, theoretically - 7000ltrs per hour, probally more like 4000-5000 per hour because of the height of the return. this is 7 maybe 8 times turnover, sounds like i'd be better off running just the one.

am i right ?

2x-3x is fine. in my 40gal reef i only run 150gph thru my sump/fuge..

if u have a skimmer/fuge down below, u don't want major flow thru it anyway.

your not supposed to rely on your return for flow in your tank. get a return pump to serve the purpose of a return. then get power heads to get the flow u want in the tank.
