~~ Thread of the Month ~~ Ghetto Tanks!

2129MVC-023F-med.JPG

It's not as ghetto as some of you, but that was my tank at one point. Notice the gratuitous number of things in the tank: 2 powerheads, remora, and an overflow box NOT EVEN CONNECTED TO THE SUMP YET! (I wanted to get some coralline :) ) The lack of a background and hair algae make this, in my opinion, fall just in the ghetto range.

Ghetto fish room

Here is my sweet high tech fish room. Couple of nice things to note is the skimmer stand(wifes cross stitch box), Old garbage desk "found" at work, and don't even think about stealing the towel rack! It's patented
If only I could stop buying live stock I could get nice equipment...oh well it works

Is there some sort of Award we can win? I'd like to know where I stand in all of this.

EDIT: If you look in the 8th picture, you can see how I made a cord of duct tape and taped the channel changer to the bedpost so it can only go about 3 feet...

omg that is the funniest thing I've ever seen!

Ok here's a my sterlite 20 or so gallon reef setup. I have a 3" live sand bed a bunch of live rock, a frogspawn, a few mushrooms a ton of caulerpa, aquaclear powerhead, cpr bak pak with mj1200mod, 200 w won heater, Home Depot Light of America 65w powercompact and a true percula, yellow tailed damsel(have had for 4 years), a cleaner shrimp, a peppermint shrimp, two serpant starfish, and various snails.. It's kinda the leftover stuff from my 90g swap I did a week ago.. this will all go into my friends 25tall reef we're setting up in the next few weeks.. but until then its sitting on my counter in my kitchen next to my 44g ro/di holding container..

If this wasn't permenant, I would say Dude!

Interesting, not bad. Scary but hey it works.

This is cool. I like it. Soooo Does that mean you think it is ghetto?

Be we ghetto with this?

Doesn't look dreadful installed, but I figure if everything but the front and back walls was made from pieces of wood I kept tripping over in the garage (I'm not exaggerating, that place was a nightmare), it's pretty ghetto.

You Be Ghetto! Wow, the shear energy that went into that is incredable.

The water comes from the Long Island Sound right after it passes Manhattan.

I think this deserves the 'lifetime achievement' award for ghetto-ness. :D
Anybody that has the guts to take that kind of risk deserves an eternal place in the ghetto hall of fame. :D

Unfortunately my reef sits right in the middle of my living room as a room divider, so I've never been able to take advantage of the more ghetto aspects of this hobby... I 'am' going to start a growout tank, so hopefully I can ghetto some stuff together to share... :D

How's the new 90 doin? I like your refugium... ain't ghetto at all in my book... and it looks like we have the same taste in turkey basters. I found a zip-tie helps keep the bulb on better... I kept blowing the spout off until I zip-tied it. :D

hey what's going on.. The 90 is doing great Except I just lost a bunch of new frags to RTN this week... including my Exotic Blue Tort..

I heard your tank is amazing I want to come check it out sometime.. I'm still working on getting a refuge plumbed inline. I have about 20or so different corals in that setup above right now..=) Just picked up a 40g to use as a sump/refuge..

Yowch, that sucks. :(

And thanks. :D

I'll have plenty of SPS frags in the future, so don't worry too much... even got an ORA blue tort, though it's still pretty small (was a frag of a frag).

We'll definitely have to hook up sometime... would like to check out your setup as well. :)

Sounds great anytime is good I actually will be on vacation all next week. I just got my TUNZE 6010 kit so I'll be hooking it up tonight and setting up another auto topoff container to give me 10g gallons of topoff so I can leave for longer than two days..=)
