~~ Thread of the Month ~~ Ghetto Tanks!

.....Well,by popular demand from PMs,here is my KICK-BUTT SKIMMER,I built the otherday for nothing $$$,out of my pocket, just stuff I had around the shop.I do miss my watercup(connector) and my wife is hunting for the blue pitcher:lol: The window to the air & water mixture is after the pump.A tube of a gravel cleaner, that I will have to replace,so I guess it will cost me $$

My make-up/ kalk drip system is pretty ghetto. I'll have to take some pics tonight. My tank sits next to book shelf. So, I use an 11qt. bucket from Wal-Mart and it fits perfectly between the two shelves above the tank. From there I use a piece of flexible air tubing to siphon the water/kalk mix over. The bucket end is tied to a small piece of LR to hold it on the bottom of the bucket, also keeps the tubing end out of the kalk muck at the bottom. The other end is tied in a knot to slow siphon to a drip, then placed under one leg of my PC lights to hold it over the tank. I put a powerhead just below it to mix everything as it's dripped. I usually have a bucket on the floor by the tank for siphon spit:beachbum:

fire hazard? i think not!!!:p this is my mh suspended over an 8 gallon cube... thats right... with bent clothes hangers... and two minifans superglued directly to the bulb base for cooling...yellow duct tape holding the reflector to the hangers and also insulating the conections to the fans.... of course its not a fire hazard... haha... enjoy...;)

i think this is my favorite thread ever...you guys are definately my type of reefers. I wish I had pics of my old 90...tupperwear overflow and 2x4 hood with reflector sitting on top of it... I love that for some of us the exterior of the tank really doesnt matter at all...its all about the inards.

....I just now sat down from shoving a hurricane lantern top glass into that pitcher you see on top of my skimmer a couple of post back.I cranked it wide open and just sitting here looking at it...Looks like mount St. Helen coming out the topThe damn glass top from the lantern created a sealed fit....for right now anyway. The collection box is at the base of the skimmer.Froth running down the side of the reaction chamber.....Wife is at work

LOL, I usually have them going into the sump, I hate adding anything directy into the display. The bottle is actually collapsebale, it is made for camping. And HEY! IT IS GETTO THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

I'm surprised at how many people run such ghetto set-ups.. I would say mines pretty ghetto too.. However, I noticed that many of the tanks weren't even bad looking, they were actually very nice!

I have a hole in the side of my my sump patched up with duct tape - hey that stuff has been water tight for over a year.

My 30 gallon leaks - it loses about 5 gallons a week between leaking and evaportation. I catch the occaisional drops in a bucket and put back into the tank. I am trying to get a 65 to replace it. The occaisional drip sound drives me crazy sometimes.

SHARKSRME Ya that is our little cuite. I have a decent sized thread here on RC you can look up. There have been a whole of questions about her.
