~~ Thread of the Month ~~ Ghetto Tanks!

capt. insano, those ghetto tanks are in my friends classroom where we are trying to set up frag tanks as incredibly inexpensive as we can. I would not have the guts to do that at my house.

Funny story about duct tape:

When I worked in a computer store, one of my regulars was a sailor who helped rich people sail their boats 'cross the Atlantic to Europe. One time, in Finland, he was in desperate need of duct tape. He went to every hardware store he could find, with no luck. Finally, at one store, the owner sized him up and said, "You must be Canadian. I keep some in the back for Canadians."

And, in Canadian Home Depots, I've seen life-sized cardboard cut-outs featuring Red Green and piles of ... 3M duct tape.

:D

All that i have to say is where do some of these tanks live, in Dungeons?? It looks like 90% of those ghetto tanks are in a cold looking basement place.

Mine does for sure.

But being located right over a floor drain near the utility sink and a wetbar area for fragging, with my water mixing tub right next to it, all on a tile floor adds a different kind of luxury to maintaining the setup. All water is moved with hoses and tubes so no buckets and towels are necessary. Oopsies get squeegied right down the drain.

Plus I can add/subtract/change tanks and lighting at will and the temp stays fairly constant all year long and I don't have to deal with nice woodwork that usually is just in the way and can get wrecked to boot..

Think of the sacrifices people have to make to maintain their livingroom tank, all of which IMO, detract from the enjoyment of running a reef for me.

I wouldn't(read couldn't) have a setup upstairs on the carpeted wooden floor. I'd trash something for sure, probably right while setting it up, then I'd be in the garage and out of the hobby. :)
Been there, did that (on the third floor of an apartment no less) so I'm staying in the basement from now on, by choice.

Also, many people don't have the cash to set up a cadillac in the livingroom.

This thread is about being creative and making do and just flat hilarious, so take your condescension elsewhere and bring on more pop bottles and haircombs......

I feel that I must share one more thing. I have a cleaner shrimp that likes to steal food from those that do not eat so fast. I needed something to put over my open brain while I was feeding it. But I also wanted to be able to see the brain while it was eating and it needed to have some flow to it. SO I had seen this somewhere on here before. I bought a 3-liter bottle of soda and cut it in half. It doubles as a very nice funnel.

I do the same thing to feed my funky candycane (I think there's a pic of it in my gallery). Not to keep critters off it, mind you, but out of laziness. I could use a pipette to individually feed each polyp, each about the size of a dime, when its tentacles are out. Or I could just use the pop bottle and a turkey baster and let'er rip.

*sigh*

Like many people, I didn't realize what I was doing was kinda' fugly. But now that you mention it ...

LMAO!!! wonrib00 wrote----"I feel that I must share one more thing."

It's like going to confession, we all have something to get off our chest. I feel much better now, knowing I am not alone.
