LiveAquaria.com's Diver's Den® Quarantine Procedure LiveAquaria.com's Diver's Den® Quarantine Procedure
"The fish you purchase from the Diver's Den® are the healthiest ornamental marine fish available. Whether it's $10.00 damsels or a $3,500.00 Gem Tang, every single fish at our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility receives our full attention and the highest level of professional care. All fish are quarantined and acclimated to captive conditions under strict protocols regardless of species."
Kevin Kohen - Director of LiveAquaria

As dedicated hobbyists, you strive to offer the best care for your marine fish. You expect the same from your live fish provider. Drs. Foster and Smith LiveAquaria.com takes your concern seriously. All aquatic life offered in our Diver's Den® section of LiveAquaria.com are housed and maintained in our state-of-the-art Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Under our strict supervision and extensive quarantine procedures, we offer you quality aquatic life that is second to none.

Quality aquatic life at the Diver's Den®Proper Acclimation
The first step we take to ensure quality marine fish is our detailed acclimation process upon receipt of a new shipment. Proper acclimation is crucial during this difficult period directly after transport. As part of our stress-free acclimation protocol, acclimation of all new arrivals takes place in a separate room to control lighting and ambient temperature. We utilize a custom acclimation table featuring drip valves for new water and built-in drains to discard wastewater. The fish are released from the bags and placed in special acclimation units. Slide-in dividers allow us to separate fish during this time to further reduce potential fish stress. Water is dripped over the fish for an extended period to slowly adjust them to the water chemistry of our fish quarantine system.

Contrary to conventional practice, new arrivals at our facility are not kept in a hypo-salinity (low salinity) state. We maintain our salinity close to natural seawater, since overseas suppliers and export stations ship livestock in natural seawater (salinity of around 35 ppt depending on the locale). This practice reduces fish stress during initial acclimation and also allows us the flexibility to receive shipments from suppliers from around the world, on any day of the week. Most importantly, keeping our salinity close to natural seawater means minimum acclimation stress when you receive them for your home aquarium.

No, it's not. They also quite clearly state that regardless of their procedures, all fish should still be quarantined by the reefer. DD appears to take steps to make sure fish have no overt signs of disease and are eating well - probably does mean the healthiest source of fish.

They certainly have a reputation as one of the best suppliers. They do not specify the quarantine duration, so naturally I would still quarantine any fish you receive from them, but they are a very well-known reputable supplier.

Unfortunately "quarantine" means different things to different people. Do they quarantine the way we should to keep our tanks healthe? No. They don't claim that their fish are ready to go in your DT. They recommend quarantine by the buyer. They are just explaining how they consistently deliver healthy livestock that has already started the transition to captive life.

I bought a DD Midas Blenny and I was very happy with it. It's a fantastically healthy fish. I did QT. The “what you see is what you get” is amazing too. For buying online, it's awesome to see a picture of the actual item you will be getting. Fish and corals.

I check DD every single day.

Every fish and nem in my tank except my royal gramma came from DD. The best specimens I have seen by far, the packaging and care that goes into transport is obvious when they arrive. Everything has always arrived in excellent health.

^^ this.

"quarantine" just means to isolate and inspect; even if you do so for 1 day, you technically quarantined. i think people like me who go to complete lengths to erradicate parasites and disease need to come up with a new word than "quarantine", very confusing really. or at least say "quarantine, treat and erradicate" (QTE, i coined it first!)

They hands down have the best customer service out of any place I have ever purchased from in the past, I have purchased a lot of coral from them in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. I have been able to tour the Diver's Den facility in Wisconsin a few years ago, I lived up there, great setup, I don't think there is anything to be worried about when you purchase from there.

I also check DD daily.

I like QTE! You have bragging rights to it.

Also, note that all fish are guaranteed for 14 days! Even difficult ones. And this guarantee is money back or replacement at the buyer's choice.

Did you have problems with a fish you received?

No. Did I imply that? I dont have a tank set up yet so I don't have any fish. But when I do they will be TT'd. Just trying to learn the angles by asking stupid questions sometime

I think they are a fine supplier. They would have no reason to lie about their practice at live aqaruia. The gaurantee is real and they make good on it. Yes, some of their fish die in shipment or shortly after but they are genrally healthier than others. Still, I treat every fish I get as a potential disease carrier and treat it accordingly no matter where I get it from.

Amen to that.
