Through the Looking Glass

Gorgeous collection and awesome cam skills!!
Thank you, still working on the camera skills part. Well, I am also working on the collection as well
Thanks

SCC Planet Earth---pinkish-red polyps, pretty blue body with green showing through on the lower half--really amazing peace

Rouge millie--not the tyree but really pretty

Rommel's watermelon millie--it changes back and forth all the time--sometimes very yellow, sometimes more green and always with some orange
showing through

Great Photos.

Have have you noticed anything from the continuous fragging of your corals? Change in shape etc ?

I would like to like to know what would be the best strategy to frag a coral.

Thanks

Beautiful Tank I hope to have one like it one day.

Do you notice a slow down in growth with the 20K or are you still getting decent growth? I just changed to 20K from 14K and was wondering how much slower the growth will be. Also, did you start most of your colonies from frags or mini colonies?

And Yes this should be a "Tank of the Month" candidate!!

I have had two rounds of fragging, January and march with a little bit since then. The response is generally multibranching from cut tips I am not sure of the best strategy to frag, often choices are simply limited to getting access for the bone cutter. It is common to get blocked out by other colonies nearby. A concern always is fracturing more than you planned on cutting.

Virtually everything started from frags. I have been using 20k MH lights from the start and I am pleased with the growth

A couple of different colored acros

this is a small frag that I recently got from a colleague, reef raft something--its dark green blue tips and yellow at the very tip--hope it turns out to be interesting. Next to it (on the right) is the scc planet earth.

Red convexa and it blows my mind every time. Its a beautiful red. The only issue is that when I trimmed it, it sent out crazy multibranching and I liked its previous branching pattern better. I assume the branching and fusing is a defense mechanism to make it bulkier and stronger and more resistant to storm surges or in this case, bone cutters.

And now, a couple of purple examples.

Purple stylo

Purple Monster

Wild colony that I have had for some time, orange polyps and blue tips--its crazy

Not yet famous prostrate--I let a friend talk me into fragging a piece for him. Check out all the colors in this thing.

A no namer I got from Leo Chen a while ago--I love the irridescent colors and yes, that is what it really looks like

Nick's Bubble gum Millie--as usual half the colony is happy and the other half isn't. The unhappy half can be partially seen in the background

Mr. Pacman, does not have that great body color that I've seen on some pics but maybe as it gets bigger, who knows

metallic/sapphire millie

I think this is the lightning horrid

Good ol "joe the coral"

ice fire echinata, atleast one of the many versions floating around. This is a really slow grower but has a very cool white body

A very cool acro, I am hoping these polyps turn out red which is what I am counting on.

I have four different granulosa's but I only took pictures this time of three of them. They are relatively near each other so I hope they grow into each other

Cousin of strawberry shortcake--because they kind of look just like cousins do

Glow in the dark--carolinia I believe

bubble gum millie--two different ones, just love the red with blue tips

and the second one

I am amazed by your pictures. For me these are some of the most true to life colours I have ever seen. When I attempt to take pictures this is what I see in my mind but have a hard time capturing. Great job and look forward to more.

I have some of these pieces like convexa and the Cousin of SSC as well but do not have the same colour, you have given me something to strive for

Thanks again

Dwayne

Well I just read through your thread, Dwayne and your tank is what I would like mine to look like some day. I work on keeping the tank clean and neat but then I looked at your tank and was totally blown away. No coralline algae on the glass, sand white. And your corals are much larger colonies than mine. And your photography skills are awesome--your exposure setting looks perfect Thank you for noticing my thread and I will be following yours as well

The tank looks amazing as always. I really like some of those no-makers you have. How's the switch in the lighting effecting everything? Pros and cons??

Bryan

Hey Mark,

I have been doing some research about the Mr.Pacman, I think yours is actually one of the cool deep water dragon acros.

I noticed that the metallic/sapphire millie looks different in each photo. In the first photos it was more fuzzy. Its really an awesome piece.

The two bubble gum milles are sweeeet. Which one did I get :p

Keep em coming !!

Only pros really, the geissmann light fixture is tremendous. The reflectors add so much umph to the light it is extraordinary. I went from 2 to 4 t5 80 watt bulbs and just changed the ushio 250 watt 20 k metal halides to radium 250 watt 20 k. The tank is so much brighter! I have reduced the photoperiod a lot. I did have a couple colonies croak but I changed the power heads, lights and allowed my phosphates to creep up and I may have over trimmed those two colonies as well. That was pretty sad. But on the other hand, I used the opportunity to do some selective culling and replanting.

Lol, you got the top one and its a gorgeous colony. The metallic/ sapphire Millie is just crazy with the cool blue and green and metallic shimmer. I believe it's always pretty fuzzy unless an emerald crab has clamored by

Last of the pictures from the other day

Bright green flourescent acro

Blue tennis

Baby blue echinata in front of my bright flourescent pink millie (may move the echinata somewhere else in the tank)

And the last of the series
