Thumbs up for Ozone!

Thanks Fred_J. I ordered it yesterday and when I got home from work there was an email asking for my phone number even though it was in the paypal payment. I suppose I'll receive it next week.

ORP is at 302 with no ozone now. Is it better to have the probe in the sump or display?

I would like to know as well.. Where to put the probe. I heard that you want to keep it out of the light and in low flow.

I put the probe in my tank and it is up to 458 this afternoon. Something isn't right as I'm not adding ozone. It's been several days. I lightly brushed the probe and it is brand new (less then 1 week). Any ideas? Should I call milwaukee or soak it in vinegar?

What does the probe read when all your lights are off? Do you have a grouding probe in your tank. Stray voltages can really mess with ORP readings.

I ended up calling them anyway. He said normally they read on the low side and cleaning is not needed unless it was old. He said a bottled water should have a orp of close to 0 so I'm gonna test that. He mentioned any electrical current in the tank will cause issues similiar. I'm pretty sure that isn't the issue but I'll try a reading in a glass seperate from the tank.

Well he said since the unit is new, it doesn't need to be cleaned. I'm sure it should be cleaned every couple months.

To check for voltage, he asked me to place it in a glass outside of the aquarium and see what it reads. He said electrical interference could cause issues.

I have a 180g tank, 90g sump and Euroreef 12-2.....I am not sure how I want to set up my new ozone (Sanders 100g, Milwaukee ORP controller, Red Sea Dryer)

Jay at Premium Aquatics says that if I connect it to my euroreef, my pumps will crap out within a year....not good

he suggests i put a 5g bucket in my sump fed by 1 of my tank overflows....have the ozone blowing into the bottom of the bucket....... with some carbon a little higher in the bucket.....

does this make any sense?
thanks

Stick light bulb in it?

Marcelo -

pfft, who needs ballasts, I just stick my halides in the water!

LOL

I put the probe in some DI water with a TDS of 0 and it read 323 orp on pure water. I placed it in some vinegar and it went up to 550. I placed it back in my display and it is at 375. I'll check later to see if it climbs back up. Kind of bummed out it is not reading correctly. I seriously doubt my orp is over 450.

jay24k: I clean my probe in vinegar once a week......its an AquaController II with an AquaController probe they say it never needs to be calibrated or cleaned....there wrong it needs a good cleaning at least every two week

Well my orp is down to 330 which seems more accurate. Does it take awhile to recalibrate once you vinegar clean it? I'll report back later and see. I don't see how RODI water is going to make it report 0.

I guess I'll do weekly cleanings. It doesn't seem to hurt imo.

Thanks for confirming that clkwrk. I am holding off on buying the ozone till I make sure this controller does the right thing.

is that pure white vinegar you're using? do you all do it regardless or when you see encrusting algae on it? how long do you all let it soak? thanks

Mine dropped by 100 after about 2 weeks. It looked clean as a whistle too. I was starting to get big headed about how good my husbandry skills were. :D
