Thumbs up for Ozone!

Yea it came in. I need another powerstrip but I did hook it up at 25 mg/h with the luft pump at setting 3. I'll check it and see. I don't smell any ozone yet but man I stuck it up to my nose and it stunk.

I'll unplug it tonight before I go to bed till I get a power strip.
My orp is at 355 before ozone so it rose 20 points since my last post about it.

I ran mine for roughly 10 minutes and it rose to 360 from 320. I then turned it off and it dropped to 320 within an hour.

Does that sound right? I can see it rising that fast, not dropping that fast though.

the rise in ozone really depends upon how much you are generating and how much water volume you have. It take my 350 gallons of water about an hour to rise 50 points. I am generating ozone at about 100-150 mg/hour

I have noticed that my orp in general has increased to around 320 without dosing anything. I run ozone for about two weeks and the orp was increased from 220 to 350. I have been without it for over a week and it is holding steady at 320. I am thinking I do not need to dose it continuously.

My ORP probe was right near the output of the skimmer so I am thinking I was getting a false high reading when I was dosing. This morning I moved the probe to my overflow since there is little light in there and the water isn't too turbulent. We'll see how fast it rises now...

If you're using the Enaly, and a controller, I'd think that right outside the skimmer would be the best place to have it. That way if a serious amount of ozone is escaping the skimmer, it will shut off the ozone.

Your reading may be higher than it really is in the tank, but you're not going to have one of those situations where the tank is 300 ORP, and your sump is 600 because your pumping 200mg, then the sump nukes the tank.

thrlride,

Any updates? Do you by chance have photos of your setup; I'd like to get a visual to help you out in ideas.

Thrlride,

With a pic on filtration a lot of reefers can get a visual on what you are doing in regards to Ozone.

From the pics that I posted I got back a ton of ideas; and I hope that happens for you to.

Thrlirde, I'm in the process of getting my Tunze 6000 and notice you have the 6100 do you think it's enough current for your 90 gallon?

It depends on what you keep in your tank but I am assuming your tank is SPS. Mine is a mixed reef and the tunze provides more than enough flow. I have to aim them rather carefully to annoy my lower flow loving corals.

I have the 6000 on one side of the tank and the 6100 on the other being controlled by the 7095 controller. I have the driver for the 6000 to change it to a 6100, I just think two 6100's will be too much for the 90.

Thrlride,

I have also a mixed reef, some SPS on top and some LPS on the bottom.

I have three MJ1200 powerheads on the top one in the corner, one in the middle and one on the right side; they have the deflector on them pointing downward towards the glass.

My Reef keeper alternates them 2 at a time every 6 minutes. As a return line I have the Mag 1200 in the center.

Do you think that the 6100 would be too much flow for my tank? Should I stick with the 6000?

I have a lot of live rock and assume there are a lot of dead spots in the back of the tank.

You mentioned you have the upgrade transformer to upgrade your 6000, have you tried it?

Thanks

I didn't try that driver but I did upgrade my other 6000 tunze to the 6100 and it's amazing the extra flow it provides.

I would start with the 6000 and see how you like it. If it doesn't seem like enough then get the driver to make it a 6100. It really doesn't cost any more money to get a 6000 then upgrade. The 6100 is $60 more than a 6000 but the driver to update the 6000 is also $60.

I recently install the Aquazone Delux Ozonizer onto my Euroreef
and I no longer generate enough bubbles to push waste up into the collection cup. It basically makes it up to about the top of the neck of the skimmer. The following is a breakdown of the setup:

Airpump - air dryer - ozonizer - t vavle - Skimmer pump.

I have added PVC to the stand pipe to run the water through a carbon chamber.

I am running plenty of air into the ononizer so I dont think that is an issue.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Trigger,

It's pretty easy answer, you have pulled out all your organics out of your tank....

Your water is clean...

If you were to shut off your skimmer for a week and feed heavy, fire back up your skimmer and you'll see the difference...

My skimmer is way overrated for my tank; it literally doesn't pull anything then at a heavy feeding it will foam up again.

Thanks,

You made my choice easier.... This hobby is crazy.... Sorry for all the questions....

MG

No worries on the questions, I've had many here as well. So, how much money of yours did I spend? :)

Thrlride,

Actually you spent my wifes money, last week I took her down to one of my favorite LFS and showed her the Tunze line.

I walked up and introduced her to the owner and told him my wife is here to see the Tunze line.

My birthday is the 24th of this month and I'm tired of the nice ties and shirts from Macy's it's time for some hobby action from my wifes end.

She saw that I want the Tunze 6000, Single Controller, Photo period relay and maybe the magnet.

So I'd say some $400 dollars are going down her way... for me... :)

So actually you saved her some money becuase we are going for the 6000, thanks to your good advice.... :)

mikeguerrero,

I wish that was why it wasn't foaming so much but I think it has more to do with the ozonizer because it was foaming into the collection cup before I installed the ozonizer. I acctually expected more foam once the ozonizer was installed. For some reason I seem to remember a previous post that described the same problem and the solution ended up being an equipment issue but I cannot seem to find the post.

Trigger,

The reason I thought you were overskimmed is because my skimmer stopped skimming before ozone.

Now with ozone what it does skim is much darker in color than before.

But the skimming is about the same with both.. No big difference...

I will say, it's more clear inside the tank than before not by much but a picky reefer like me can see the difference.

Also ozone is just overall a good addition to have; as when it fires up, it keeps that tank in check.

Sounds like a good deal to me!
