Thumbs up for Ozone!

I turned the ozone off last night because I didn't have an open outlet but I came home today and my orp was 425 which I know was impossible. I only ran it for like 20 minutes last night. I placed it in vinegar again for like 30 minutes and an hour after being in the tank again, it is showing back to around 350. Also my moving the probe rapidly or taking out of the sump, it causes my ph side of the controller to turn off and on. If I touch the metal probe, it also turns it on and off. I'm about over this controller.

Guess it is time to call their support again.

I just bought ozone tubing. I don't recall what size but I think it is pretty standard.

Talk about bad luck. I hooked the dryer up and I guess the plug wasn't in good because it fell out. This was the red sea unit 500 gram one from Marine Depot. I had a million of the beads EVERYWHERE. IF I can give one piece of advice, do not let them fall out. They bounced 20 feet away everywhere. So now out of a full thing of beads, I'm down to 3/4 full.

This is not a good week. Driving 3 hrs a day due to ISA 2004 training which so far hasn't showed me anything new, coming home to find out corals I ordered got delayed by UPS, my 3 yr old who had to get blood work done, and a wife who got two hours of sleep sure did not make for the best day. Now I get to get home tommorrow at 7pm from training, and go to work till 11 switching out some equipment to a cisco gig backbone. Only good thing is my mileage is paid for, and I'm hourly so big overtime this week.

I'm running ozone with max at 380 right now and I'll see how it goes. I have the luft pump at 5 and my ozone at 60% of 50 mg. I'll start low and see if I need to go higher.

pretty standard, didn't know that was a size, but thanks for trying.

The bead thing...IT SUCKS! Happened to me the first time I needed to cook 'em. I think that's one of those things everyone does once.

Have fun with the training.

I've never seen multiple sizes of the tubing. That's what I was trying to say. For example, I bought mine from Premium Aquatics.

http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...D&Product_Code=RED-OZONETUBING&Category_Code=

This is the same with marine depot, web aquatics, foster and smith, etc.

Pretty Much standard across the board. If you see any other sizes that are ozone airline tubing, then I would suggest calling up premium aquatics and they can give you their exact size. You can't beat their price at .15 cents a foot. Marine depot wanted 2 dollars a foot.

Jay24K,

Awesome in your redemption, you left me impressed.... Talk about getting to the bottom of things.... You gave him the link and everything.....

When I leave my doors shut on my stand I don't smell the ozone in the room even though I left it running all night long so that is good. My ORP is up to 338 now with the lights off. It's really rising quite slowly which is surprising. I'll let it continue to rise and then when it gets to the 360 or 380 area I'll clean the probe. As it is now the probe is still in the overflow.

Jason, I hope your days get better soon!

Wasn't trying to be a smart arse. This is where I was looking:

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pr...USPlastic&category_name=18315&product_id=7917

I checked all the aquarium sites, some catalogs I had and the literature that came with the red sea and no size was mentioned.

I've been running mine for a couple of months now with non ozone safe stuff which is deteriorating rapidly. This is what I wound up getting. Hope I guessed right:

NorpreneÃ"šÃ‚® Industrial Grade Tubing 1/8" ID x 1/4" OD x 1/16" Wall

It was .49/foot. Wish I knew about the premium aquatics stuff earlier.

Another mod for the Enaly is to restrict the air inlet so it makes less ozone, someone PM me with this but i never tried it, i found that disconecting the pump worked fine for me.

I ran mine all night at 50mg/r with the luft at setting 5 and I didn't see the orp go up at all. I'll check this evening and see.

Here's the goods to monitor the tank and ozone:

Here is the skimmer hookup, you can see where it sucks from the lid... That's not ozone safe tubing but it won't get the brunt of the ozone either. The smell isn't bad now but the ORP is rising really slowly.

Well, since this site is so stable I now have to retype my entire post. Lovely.......

To anyone else that has the enaly unit, does it run hot? Where the output tube is the surface is 160 degrees. The ozone safe tubing is slightly discolored too. Is this normal?

I opened the unit again and the plastic on the inside had melted some. Hopefully enaly makes good with it.

I don't want to wait three weeks to get another so I just ordered the 50 mg/hr sander unit. I'll sell the new enaly unit when I get it.

Why is the coralife air luft pump important? Can a regular air pump from petsmart work for this application?

Did I read that you disconnected the built-in air pump in your Enaly?
Did you not replace that with an external air pump?
I would think without an air pump pushing air through the unit it (best case) wouldn't do much or (worst case) cause problems with no air flowing through it - i.e. overheat.
My enaly does get very hot too.
The luft pump just seems to be very popular because it's adjsutable.
I would think you can use any air pump.

I simply unplugged the tube from the airpump, I plugged it back in.

With the air pump running the unit heated up again so I unplugged it and removed it as I can understand hot, not so hot the plastic on the outside and inside starts to melt. I'm waiting to hear from enaly now.

thrlride i didnt understand the last post. does the enaly run hot with or without the air pump? how long would the enaly run on a given day, on average? thanks

Thrlride,

Forget about the Enlay for now, your setup is so clean it deserves a Sanders unit to compliment your emmaculate filtration.

I'm glad you ordered the sanders unit and I really encourage you to get the Luft pump, they go hand and hand.

We have almost the same setup up you and I, makes me want to copy the way you have your powerstrip buttons all in one area, very clean.

Get the 500 g dryer if you can, it's essential to running less ozone as you require less if you have dryer air.

Can't wait for your updated pic when your goodies come in.

Geeze what a headache on that Enlay, just too many corners to cut just to get it to run, I know it must be a good unit don't get me wrong just a hassle with all the DIY work.

JMO,

MG
