Thumbs up for Ozone!

Yea i was talking to my friend today and stopped add baking soda. I am just going to stop the my CA at night.

About the ORP, yea I clean it all the time with the vinegar. I don't understand why my orp is so high with ozone.

Nick

Actually ORP will be higher if PH is lower. They are related a little bit, just not too much.

In this instance it is not the problem though.

I had a ph high of 7.7 for a couple months. Don't try to buffer it. IT will get better over time unless you have a CO2 problem in your house. Then you need to fix that problem first. I never recommend EVER to buffer the ph in a tank. It causes shifts which are not good.

When i first got my Ozone unit i was able to get the ORP to about 385. In fact my controller would turn it off. But now it doesn't get higher than 330. I have tried to up the amount but nothing happens. I tried smelling the unit and it smelled different, so i don't know if that's the problem. What could it be? I clean my probes weekly.

pperez, mine did the same thing when I was running the ozone off a T in the venturi line. It worked for a bit, then just stopped.

I use a mixing chamber now, and it works much better.

Rich,

I got rid of the T and put it direct, i then added an additional airline to compensate for the air loss. Should i try going back to the T? I can't see how that can be the issue though. I figured the more air in the chamber the better the skimmer would skim, unless i'm wrong.

Ok, so let me get this straight:

Euroreef. You've got 2 venturi lines. 1 has the ozone, one doesnt. Is there an airpump on the ozonizer?

Rich,

Yes, there is a pump on the ozonizer. And yes, that is correct, i have two venturi lines, one has ozone and the other doesn't.

I got me a new ozonizer today the old one just crap out after 7 years .
I try the mixing chamber way and i'm very disappointed it make so much noise is unbelievable.
I even try to make a muffler for it but still make sucking noise.
I think i'm going to get me a tee.
first i try to feed both pumps with a mixing chamber it is no way sound like a F18 is taking off in my living room seems like the PVC pipe enhance the skimmer sucking sound.
So i try with only one pump it is a little better but no way is very loud more than anything i have in the tank running.
Here some pictures.
This is the mixing chamber it has a 1/2 hole on the top that you can not see..

Here is a muffler for it i just glued the top part on the cap with the 1/2 hole , it is a little better but still make to much sucking noise.

Steve, put some foam around the muffler, the same way you wrap your overflows.
I try don't work that good , still make noise.
I trash the mixing chamber i had a 1/4" 4 way i plug one hole and use that for now i order Two new PVDF 1/4" Tees from Us plastic. $ 10 for the two tees $2.65 for the Tees and the rest shipping.
i can not belive the noise this thing makes i had to get out of the bed and fix it.

steve, your skimmer draws a lot more air than mine. I have a 701. the noise from mine is minimal to me. Although my wife may think differently

Jay you had a high pH of 7.7? Dude, that is way low, most reef systems I have seen run around 7.9 to 8.3.......

I dont think ANY ozone is going to get to your skimmer that way.

It looked like the muffler was outside the tank area, in a room. It would probably work much better in the stand. Much quieter.

Ozone report...

After running my unit for about 3 months I always ran about 400-410 mv. My controller would shut it off about 390 mv.

This was the norm and I could see my tank was always crystal clear, even at an angle bottom to top.

Now, since the last 3 weeks I've seen my ozone unit never shut off and been gradually comming down to 350 and 325 mv.

Today I get about 320 mv; the water still looks clear but not as clear as when I use to get while at 415 mv.

So I call Milwaukee to order calibration liquid and they tell me if I'm seeing numbers in the norm, the unit is working; it's when you get readings in 500 + or 100 - that you have a faulty probe. Nevertheless, I'm awaiting my calibration liquid.

The only difference that I see, is that I have been running a UV unit 24/7 since I fought and won a massive ich outbreak. Could that be one reason my ORP has dropped to that number and will not climb past that?

I also just recently started AZ-N03 absolute zero Nitrate remover in an attempt to bring down my nitrate from 20ppm to 0ppm.

Just want to share this with all of you; oh yeah I'm running a T line to my Sanders ozonizer and I run 50 mg/hr inside a Deltec AP600.

I'm also finally ready to bake my beads they are exhausted; I'm using the 500 g from RedSea.

Any guesses??

Mike G

mine drops tremendously when I feed...are your organics high?? are you missing a fish?? a dead or decomposing fish could cause it to drop. ozone generators supposedly work without dryers.. just not as efficiently.. i dont think that is it.

I do have one missing blue/green chromis but he has been missing for about 3 weeks so I dn't think it could be that, but who knows....???

Try baking the beads, and see if that helps. I'd bet you're getting a good deal of moisture to the ozonizer and its not working very efficiently.

As far as feeding, I'm running about 380, but a heavy feeding drops me to 325 for a couple hours.

On a side note, my PH has been climbing with the ORP falling; last two days it has gotten to 8.4 and then as the lights cut, it will drop down to 8.1...

This is consistant with what I've been reading about higher PH will yield lower ORP...
