Thumbs up for Ozone!

I don't think the air from the skimmer collection cup goes through the desiccant and ozonator, just directly to the venturi.
Kind of like a closed loop for air.

Good point Jason. My skimmer sometimes does go nuts and overflows. The check valve would at least protect the important delicate equipment.

I reread Bill and Elaine's post again, and you are right. I was focusing more on the picture and question posed by kmagyar.

Correct. I think the ozone is fed outside and the other normal oxygen side from the T is from the cup from residual ozone escaping from the skimmer.

Can we get a clarification on that w/ pictures?

The only issue I see is it would be sucking in very humid air and might further decrease the efficiency of the ozone generator. I still plan on trying it though.

The ozone generator isn't sucking in air from the skimmer collection cup.
The air from the skimmer cup is going directly to the venturi via the T fitting.
The other side of the fitting is going to the generator's output.

I was just thinking the air the venturi is drawing from the skimmer cup might be more humid but I doubt it is much worse than simply drawing it from beside the skimmer.

Thrillride, I think you're missing what hes trying to say.

The air being pulled from the cup isnt going through the ozonizer or the dessicant. The T is after the ozonizer, so the humidity doesnt matter.

ahhh, I see

Ignore me while I hide in the corner. :)

But what happens if you have a riser tube, like on the Deltec skimmers? How could you limit the residual amount of ozone comming from here?

I can see how the Cup works but still worried about the riser tube...

Is there any airborne ozone coming from the riser tube? I don't think I'm getting any visible bubbles coming through my tube. I'm thinking that the airborne ozone in the room is coming from the "undissolved" (for the lack of a better word) ozone in the bubbles in the skimmer.

Sorry guys very busy today.....I will post pics this weekend & answer questions after the posting of them.....

mikeguerrero: I have been thinking about a riser tube filter with filter floss and carbon in it.....I'm going to get a 1 1/4 x 2" reducer and build one that can slip onto the riser pipe.....I'll post pics when done

Bill,

Thanks for replying to my concern; in the meantime I have placed a carbon filter bag over the riser tube vertically.

I did this because I feel ozone does make it through at this connection or else why would you even bother to place carbon bags at the return line.

I also have two other filter carbon bags over the two small holes in the collection cup.

The carbon bags are the ones that fit the aqua clear filter the mini version.

Anyway, let me know when you have yours up and running I'd like one also.

Mike--Does Deltec offer a gate valve option like ER and ASM. If so this is a good time to update and it gives you a way to hang the carbon.

Well, Its been 5 days and my ORP finally reached 425. All the way from 230 early this week! Maybe that was too fast but at this point I have no regrets. I hope those are not famous last words. :) The largest improvement after 5 days is certainly noticeable polyp extention on my sps and even some of my blastos and acans.

My water does not look any more clear as it looked good before. Maybe it is better and I cannot tell. Did anyone here shorten the MH photoperiod when introducing ozone because of water clear up?

My desicant is almost shot already. How long does it take to bake and is it a mess (smell) when you use the wifes oven for non food related stuff :)

Keith

Gonna have to clean my probe again. It is showing 425 this morning. It stayed at around 320-330 with my last cleaning for about a week. Do most of you have to clean yours weekly?
Seems like a PITA.

I put mine on my weekly schedule with my water changes. They jump a lot at about the week and a half mark.

Mine went to 350 then I cleaned it and it dropped to 290. It's up to 320 again. It really does seem like a hassle.
