I am a new-b when i comes to Ozone but i am haveing an issue trying to decide what model to go with and what size. I deffinetly dont want to over due myself the first go round. So i was think of either the Red sea plus 100mg or a Ozotech http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/ca...id=95&osCsid=61ca80b8c56cfceb7e933ad017812fbb

but the ozotechs dont say 50mg or 100mg or what. What do you guys think about these two? which should a newB like myself go with.

I deffintley like the external design of the ozotech thats pritty much my only reson for going with it.

I have a 75 and run 17 mv. The 100mg is more then enough. Really you will never fun that much. You want small but steady mv injection.

Not to sound like a New-b but how do you know what mv your running? and what model are you refering to?

yes I call it 17 mv sice I think of mh/hr like "juicing" the water....sorry

17 mg/hr on my 75. does not need much since once it gets up to 350 it stays pretty close.

During the day, it pops on several times. Night, it never comes on. ORP to high.

I think he meant 17 mg.

Got ya. So what do you think of the two different units that i was asking about? Any exper.

I never used or heard of Ozotech. You still need a controller for it. So add another $80 for that and about $55 for a probe. So that is $450 for all I assume.

Up to you. I have a Red sea since I like it for its size etc. Might not be the best but for the price I like it. If it break 5 years down the road, I toss it out and maybe buy the same or a sanders and a sep controller (Milwaukee, )..Both would be the same price in the end.

Well the ozonizer is in. I rinsed the probe and turned everything on with dials set to zero so that I could just see what the ORP was in the tank now. I noticed something interesting, first it read Zero, then after about 4 to 6 hours I have a reading of about 120 mv. Then this morning when the ph was around 7.8 the reading was higher (about 180 mv). I am going to leave it like this for a couple more days before actually fireing the unit up and injecting ozone into my skimmer. Any suggestions on initial settings? The tank capacity is about 280 gallons total (tank and sump).

Thanks

mine did the same thing... after I set up the controller it read about 120... next am it was 160.... las night it was 180... going to wait til this weekend to fire up ozone. one question, can any air pump be used?? I plan on perhaps getting the luft pump but may be a while til then.

Here's my observation. When i first got my 100Mg Redsea unit, i started running 25mg, 50mg, and on rare occasion 75mg. This was to try and boost the ORP in the tank. I was originally injecting it via a T into my euroreef CS6-1. My skimmate production went way down. So i wanted to try something different.

I removed the T and put the unit direct to the skimmer. However, i added another airline to add more air to the mix. Now the skimmer will always get the necessary air and when the ozone kicks in it will be injected direct while also adding more air. I also tuned it down to about 15mg/hr. I have noticed an improvement in my skimmate again. This is the way i am going to leave mine as this seems to work for my tank. I was probably adding way too much ozone as my tank is only a 75gal. Just my observations.

got home tonight and the precision orp controller reads 280... you definitely need to wait a week to let the probe break in...

The milwaukee ORP controller is like a pair of new shoes, you need to break them in before they start to feel very comfortable.

Ever since I've added my UV unit to my setup, my ORP is now rising all the way to 420 mv each night and comes down to about 370 mv after feeding during the day.

I've never seen my water so clear ever, I need to take pictures, I'm without words, I really want to share through pics so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

Make sure you guys take the time to read Randy's Ozone Article - a must-read for anyone using or researching the use of O3.

IME, I've found that my milwaukee probe/controller gets dirty pretty quickly and that drives up the ORP reading. I usually toothbrush clean the probe every 2-3 days. When I do this, the ORP immediately drops by about 30mv.

Well my ORP seems to stabalize at 315. It sounds low, but when i up the ozone the values fluctuate. At the present dosage, it seems to remain more constant. And at the lower dosage i am getting more concentrated skimmate. I will let the tank dictate to me whether my ozone is ok or not.

Yeah I checked mine this morning, it read 315 mv as well, still not injecting ozone. My pump should be in today but I think I am going to give it another day or two.

For those of you injecting into a euroreef skimmer, did you put any carbon in a bag on top of the collection cup? Right now all my skimed water flows over a bag of active carbon so I am hoping that will be good to remove any residual ozone. What do you think?

I read it, long read but well worth it. I am waiting for parts 2 and 3 to come out....

Pics please.

I'm kind of having the same issue, when I use a T, I can't get it to suck nearly as much air as it used to, unless i get it to almost all go through the open leg. The O3 unit is very restrictive it seems.
