Tiger Tails and Powerheads

I'm thinking about getting a Tiger tail to help keep my sand clean, but I've heard several stories about them getting caught in powerheads. I've got a pair of SEIO 1100s, without the shroud (tunze style,) mounted halfway up the glass. I've already had a RTBA commit SEIOcide, and I'm wondering if I need to add some mesh around the SEIOs intake slots to keep the Tiger Tail out?

I havent had an issue with my cukes and my seios yet, but I do get shivers everytime I see one near the PH. I think some fiberglass screen is probably all that would be necessary to keep the cukes safe. My thought is to superglue a strip of the screen around the intake cylendar.

i have two tigertail cucumbers and i ahev seen them crawl up the corner fo the glass right next to the powerhead and not get sucked in but i only have rios that push like 300 and 700 but no problems yet hope this helps.

I'd stay away from the fiberglass screen. Over time it degrades. If a fish picks at it the fish could end up with a mouthfull of fiberglass splinters. Plastic window screen can usually be found with the same hole size at Lowes or Home Depot.

I had a cuc put his head in a powerhead. Totally stopped off the water. I thought he was dead, but he's still around and looks fine. (4-5 months ago). I run empty prefilters on my powerheads now because I had a clownfish get sucked in too. No problems since.
