Looking into getting a LTA once my 120 is cycled

I plan on putting it in 1st so it can pick whatever spot it likes but after that I dont want it roaming the tank ... what are the tricks of the trade to make it stap put?

On a side not how do you pronouce anemones? I do all me research on the net and dont want to look like a jack@$$ at the LFS.

ah NEMM oh nee

Here are things I learned back when I had them:
1. look at the flow in your tank. Shield all powerheads and outflows from floating anemone and tentacles. Let loose a little fishfood and look where it ends up (except in the fish.) That would be a good spot for it. If it isn't where you like, adjust your flow. And be sure your water quality is perfect!

2. Measure the actual space where you want it to be. Do not buy one that's too big. This is actually tricky: ask your lfs what the likely expansion is.

3. Take a few little rock or coral pieces and build a 'cup' where you would like your 'nem's foot to reside.

4. get your anemone and acclimate it.

5. turn off your pump. Put your 'nem into the tank and gently nudge it into the 'cup' you have made for it. Leave the light dim and the pump off for a while. Then bring up the light, still leaving the pump off. Just let it be for as long as you dare leave the pump down and don't fine-tune it: it will sit where it wants to.

6. Bring your pump on, and cross your fingers. If the 'nem is where the food comes (and you might drop a little in to prove the point) and the lighting is good and the flow is good, it may not move.

On the other hand---it may turn contrary.

Ok good I was pronouncing it right yesterday ... the girl was giving me a funny look when I was talking to my brother so I figured I had the pronunciation wrong.

And thanks for the tips on keeping it to stay put.

Anemones will roam until they find a spot they like. As long as its getting good flow, theres lots of dissolved oxygen in the tank and it has strong lighting your anemone will stay put for years. An anemone that roams is usually not a good sign.

good luck

here's what i did for my lta. i picked a spot of medium current and decent light. i used the natural cave structure of the rock there and made a dsb in that centralized spot (rest of the tank has about .5" of ssb). I dug to the glass in that spot and placed the anemone right there, so it could get it's foot hold and be in a dsb protected. that should help your LTA stay put.

I drill a 1 1/2" hole in my LR about 2-3" deep without punching through the opposite side. I place that rock where I think the flow is right for that anenome and also a place where I can view it easily and hope for the best.

use a mason bit or chisel to drill the hole in the live rock
