To catch a fish

I have a six line that is mean. I want to get him out. So I cut open a water bottle, turned it inside out and but in some scallop and shrimp. My wife said they now eat better than us.

Do I just put it in the water and wait or is there some way to get them to it? Any idea how long it should take? Any suggestions for success?

Anyone want a 6line?

You can do that or buy a trap, I like the trap better, however, if you do the bottle remember to also drill small holes around the whole bottle to allow water to flow through, I have a friend that catch her fish like this but because they went in when she had not noticed they died after consuming the oxygen in the bottle.

I lik to use live brine. Only squirt it in the bottle. Now after catching my last 6 line twice with a trap. It was definitely easier and quicker. I think it would see it's reflection in the rear of the trap and try to attack it.

Thanx guys. I have the bottel baited and waiting. So far no interest. If it does not work today then I will get some brine tonight and try.

When he goes in there how long will he be trapped? Do I need to sit there and watch it all day to get him out?

The best thing to do would be to sit and wait. Once it goes in. It will try to find a way to get out. Also you want free any by-catch. As Roger mentioned the fish can die if left in the trap.

I just was wondering how quick he will escape the trap. Now I am checking every 5 minutes. As soon as hes in there i will move him to the refrigium and find him a home. What do you mean free any by catch?

Can someone post a link or picture of there home made traps. I have a damsel that is a monster. He needs to go.

If all else fails, get a tiny fish hook. They make them super small. Put a brine shrimp on the hook and get ready. Need to be really fast, or you'll end up hooking a friendly fish. Works, and more fun than waiting out a fish with a trap.

Now that sound a lot more fun than what I choose to do. After 2 days of watching the trap I pulled out my live rock down to the base. Now my rock dose not look as good loosing some coraline and my stack is not as cool. It too me 7 hours start to finish.

But I got him out.
