That tis the question.

I've always been a believer in refugiums but here lately I would like to have that space in my sump for a frag section.
I'm using biopellets and wonder if the refugium is really doing anything. Stuff doesn't seem to grow much except the cotton candy algae lol.
The only thing for me is I like to keep it incase it absorbs some sort of unknown things like metals or whatever.

Depends on the size of your fuge and what's in it.
Most people's refugium do very little if anything for nutrient reduction.
The best thing you can do for a small refugium if nutrient control is your goal is have a big cheato ball and nothing else.

Your Refugium should feed your tank. If it has been seeded with pods, both injured and uninjured pods should make it into the display tank. Also, with the use of my mud filter, worms of all sorts are crawling in the mud and detritus sink. Their spores should also feed the tank. Instead of using Chaeto for nutrient uptake and export when you prune it, grow frags for nutrient uptake and export when you sell them.
Just a thought.

If that's your goal.
That is just one use for a refugium and would be set up differently than for other uses.
All depends what the OP is trying to accomplish.
I assumed nutrient control by the initial post but I could be wrong.
