iv'e been having trouble with my toadstool not opening for a while now, iv'e just noticed tonight there's two stringy white veins coming from it that seem to extend and contract back in,has anyone ever seen this before?

It looks pi$$ed off to me. These corals will shed a waxy layer every now and then though. Nice and bright, shut down for awhile, and then open back up.. (normal) They can be very temperamental sometimes.. FWIW, assuming the lighting is sufficient & the parameters are within reason, they like a LOT of flow.. That "stem" that they have is very strong... (with a secure base) GL.

so what do you think them things are coming out of it. iv'e got aquaray leds 11 in total, and its about a foot away from direct flow from my mp40. i'm thinking about moving him the end of this week if he doesn't pick up. the only thing with the water at the moment is nitrate has gone to about 0.5 which is why iv'e got all that hair algae at the mo.

no.if you look just below the mushroom head there's a white string that go off to the left. i know its hard to see

I have a toadstool frag, the kind that is shaped like a mushroom and not like a cup. It is the crankiest coral I have. It is constantly leaning one way or the other like it's falling over and the polyps are randomly open or not as it chooses. My water parameters are good, the rest of my coral are doing well including another different type of toadstool. Some of these are just a bear to deal with. I believe it will come out of it eventually but I think having good numbers and stable water is the most important thing we can do for them. And yes, I vote for vermetid also.

well iv'e cleaned it off and moved him even closer to the power head, not to sure if that's what i should of done but i'll have to wait and see.

How new is it mine took several days before he opened up. Move him around in the tank until he is happy. Mine ended preferring less intense light and moderate flow (would blow him over if not secured). He opened right up in an hour or so.

I have one and first time it shed it took about a week before it opened again. But it never took that grey color always green.

String white things looks like a spaghetti worm. Doubtful its the cause of the toadstool not opening though.

hes out and proud, less flow more light. i tried about 4 places, now hes at the top of the tank away from the power heads.
