toadstool mushroom - is this normal?

My leather was like that for like a month when I first bought it.
It is fully open and happy right now.

Unfortunately... it got very mushy around the edges when i came home yesterday and it was totally drooped over. Pieces started to fall off and i didn't have a lot of time, so i removed it.

Just leave alone!!!

I HAD left it alone until it got the spot, and then I gently brushed it off, and didn't touch it till the next day when it started to fall apart.
