Today's the Day ....

Grizzled & Cynical
Have had a couple of fish in various stages of QT, and today (well, tomorrow technically) is the day they move into the main display. Both fish, a Venusta Angel and a Chevron Tang, have been with me for almost three months. The former continues to be really secretive, though it's been eating very well since the beginning, so at this point I figure it is the way it is. For the Venusta, potential troublemakers include a flame angel, a potters angel, and potentially my pyramid butteflyfish. Venusta is bigger than either of the resident angels however. For the chevie, potential troublemakers include my yellow, purple and salfin tangs, along with my Achilles. Chevie is a decent size, though the sailfin in particular is bigger (though kinda wimpy).

I'll use my acclimation box for the Chevie, but probably not the Venusta (because it will make him crazy) and absent any overt aggression, release him after the lights go down. Always a bit nerve-wracking for me to get a fish through QT, only to see it run 'the gauntlet' in my display. Any suggestions welcomed (my first Venusta, BTW) ......

I have a trio of Venusta Angels and a pair of Flame Angelss, pair of yellow belly Regal Angels, Multibar Angel, Blueline Angel and a Goldflake angel together with a variety of wrasses. No issues with any agression. You should be just fine. Good luck!

I have a trio of Venusta (added one by one), pair of flameback, flame, pair of Golden, Gold Flake, Red Sea Regal, Multicolor, Pair of multi-bar.... No issues amoung the angels.

Chevron with 9 yellows, purple, 2 Hippos, And Achilles. Purple does a little puffery but the Chevron sticks to his own business.

Feed heavily at time of release near lights out.. They may ignore him for the food, then lights to go out(or turn them off) a lil after

Well, I have delayed the chevie (for multiple reasons), but I did put the Venusta into the main display on Feb 21st ..... and haven't seen it since ..... I do feed the tank heavily, so its possible it's simply getting what it needs without emerging (and it had been eating well for a number of months in QT) but absent any sightings soon I'm inclined to think the worst.

Nothing irritates me more than putting a fish in the tank and not seeing it for weeks... On the flip side when the fish shows back up it's always a relief and very much a "you are still alive" moment

Ah, well. you're an optimist ..... clearly! I, on the other hand, have pessimist leanings .... we shall see.

my yellow coris wrasse stayed hidden for 2 solid months. in all that time, i think i got 1 or 2 fleeting glimpses of it. i had pretty much given up when one day he emerged from the sand and he's been out ever since. had a bunch of RC loungers here that weekend and they can all tell you, i was like ralphie on christmas morning when he opened his red ryder bb gun!

You guys need to keep smaller tanks then... ;)

I have had this happen a couple of times as well, although my intervals were not as long, and while I hate the stress of not being certain of the fishes continued existence, I also enjoy the thrill of its return if they make it... :)

That's funny .... In my case, though, I have not had even a fleeting glimpse. I do have a lot of hiding places, and its a big tank, but still ..... So, will wait and see.

This is a recent FTS. The eagle eyed among you will note the absence of the Venusta ..... :(
