Todd's 200 DD Build Thread

looks like an exciting build :)
thinking about using some of that blk sand too, how coarse is it?

It's pretty fine, but not as bad as that really fine sand, this stuff sinks compared to other fine sands that blow around the tank for hours..

Have a couple more picture updates..

after adding the 120lbs of sand..

water some rocks in and the tank is circulating with a temporary sump in the basement..have a bad report on this though,my mag 9.5 pump is not cutting it..I had to order a mag 18 today..

like the support pole in the basement pic?? lol I need a couple more with the 200 and the 120 in the same spot in the house..I have to watch out or I will have 1 large basement system :uhoh2:

hey there! Love that tank!

consider moving from the 1" PVC to 1.25"

using the RC head loss calculator at 1" the mag 9 at 6 feet with two 90s (you have more loss with the T) you are at 643GPH

the mag 18 will up you to 974GPH. if you up your pipe to 1 1/4" you will get 1092 GPH and 1126 on 1.5"

In general 1 1/4" is excellent flow for the size, the 1.5" is nice, just not as much of an improvement as the 1 to 1 1/4". the sides of the 1" put a lot of drag on the water.

on the sump is the 40 a 40 breeder? I have the same sump, works, but you have to be careful of overflow when the pump is off. next sump I'm going standard height!

congrats on the outstanding tank, enjoy!

any updates?
man that black sand makes ur tank look niiiice, the water seems a bit cloudy, how about a new fts :D

had the water going for a couple weeks now with the sand and most live base rock just to get params in line..Everything is looking good now, tomorrow I will move some hearty softies and LPS to the 200 ..

Since I am using much of the gear that runs my 120..Well ..just about everything from the 120 lol I am really thinking things out before I move them,I am trying really hard not to harm my sps colonies and make a smooth transition..

A couple things that are hanging me up is the depth and shape of the tank in trying to locate sps colonies in good spots and get them mounted

I put the sump and skimmer and most equipment from the 120 off-line today and cleaned them out, they are going in the basement tomorrow to be hooked up to the 200..So now the 120 is running on just a HOB skimmer and a heater in the tank for the time being..I've been checking the params every hour so far,I'm just a bit paranoid lol..

Will get some more pics next couple days :)

Have some pictures updates..The sump/fuge and frag tank are far from done, the basement is a mess of stuff running everywhere..things are going pretty good in the display although those frags racks still need to go and I have to find places for a bunch more corals..

most corals are still not happy about the whole moving theme, only lost a couple sps frags so far..Here are some pics..

Looks great!
I had some serious losses during my switch over due to a mini cycle. most motis are gone and my ultra clam. It looks like you had better luck. Keep up the good work!

Wow... everything looks awesome, I'm diggin' the aquascape. I gotta make my way over there asap before my move. :eek2:
