what type of behavior/temperment do they have?

i just got a nicely colored one from my LFS today (ill be posting pics soon). right now hes by himself...(probably soon to be herself if not already) in a 55gal FOWLR.

i was wondering for my other livestock...should i focus on more agressive fish or docile fish?

Good personable fish, if grown on in the aquarium they will likely get aggressive to some fish and hands. especially ther female.
Large wild caught pairs as often with wild clowns can be skittish and prone to disease. Tank raised are the way to go.

i think tomatos can be pretty tough

if you get anything too docile, or she gets too mean, just remember to introduce the new guy in the dark (lights come on: hey, new fish? has he always been here?) and rearrange some rock (was this my spot? that must be his spot there...hmm...i'll take this one...)

I have a spawning pair in a 40 breeder. I started out with the following tankmates:
6-8 inch BTA, a 6 inch Target Fish (Terapon Jarbua), a 2 inch Behn's Damsel (Neoglyphidodon Nigroris) a 2 inch Black Damsel (Neoglyphidodon Melas), and a 3 inch Neon Dottyback (Pseudochromis aldabraensis).

The clowns, named 'Mater (female) and 'Mater Juice (male) were regularly spawning when I bought them in August 07. They quickly staked out the BTA as home and defended it vigorously. I moved the damsels to another tank and things settled a good bit, but the only began spawning last week for me. Tonight, I expect some hatching! They did spawn with the dottyback and target fish in the tank. I have since sold the target fish. The dottyback remains.

The male did not like the target fish and chased him whenever he ventured out of his cave. Neither on seems to mind the dottyback. The male also chases the magnet cleaner when I scrub the tank, When I hand feed the BTA, the femal will flick water against my hand with her tail. I have not been bitten yet. Their clutch is mostly behind/under the BTA.

These are nice fish and I love them dearly.

I inherited a tomato a few years ago along with a 20L tank from a friend who was moving. It had to be kept alone because it would kill any thing placed in the tank with it, even a few Damsels. It was fine as long as it had no tankmates, however it could have been because it was in a small tank.

it passed away (or at least i think it did)....along with the 2 damsels, 1 perpermint shrimp and the coral banded shrimp.......

my tank crashed a couple weeks ago.....i tried an experiment...it failed.
left for work in the morning, everything was fine....got back home...water was cloudy and i suffered a few loses because of it.
i let the tank settle, made a couple water changes.
everything is A-OK now tho. ill know better next time.
(note to self; monitor tank more strictly after doing changes)
i know what the issue was so it wont happen again
