Tomini VS Yellow Tang

Iv had the Tomini tang for about 8 months now... saw a healthy small yellow tang so decided to pick it up since iv been looking for a small one.

Well, the Tomini tang totally hates the yellow tang... is biting at it, flashing its tale at it and circling it.. I figured since they were different colors, and different shapes they would be alright together but i guess i was wrong...

The lights are out now and the Tomini has left the yellow tang alone for now, but the yellow tang is already showing some bite marks..

Oh i hope the Tomini calms the hell down :(

Tominis aren't normally as aggressive as other tangs, but they still sometimes get angry at them. You popped a smaller competitor into a tank that belonged to the Tomini, so the Tomini reacted. Normally they'll calm down pretty quickly though, so the yellow should do all right. Just monitor the situation, and be prepared to defuse the bullying if necessary.

I have a tomini too. I introduced it and a week later added a rock beauty angelfish. The angel was much smaller, but strangely the two get on great! They swim by each other like best buds. Maybe I got lucky because the tomini wasn't in long enough to establish territories.

I love tominis. Good luck with getting your tangs to adjust. I hope it works out!

Thanks guys ill keep ya posted... feel bad for the yellow tang right now though... picked him out of a tank of about 10-15 other yellow tanks.. in a very nice enviroment, only to be dropped in my tank and have WW III

give it time, they will probably settle after a few skirmishes.

I agree with butterflygirl- too small a tank though.

UPDATE:

OK the following morning peace has returned to the reef.. Just afew battle scars on the yellow tang but now they all are getting along perfectly.. the Tomini doesnt mind the tang following him all over the tank as they graze on algae.. Im glad they worked things out!!

PS Im moving in January and will be setting up a 300+ gallon tank in the wall that will be plenty of room for the fish :)
