Too Cold For Most Non-Photos?

My new 60g rimless setup is running great. Only a few rhizos and dendro colonies in there.

I have been tracking the temperature so far on it (been running a couple months now) and it runs from 64-69 degrees. There is not a heater or chiller.

I was thinking about keeping it in the 67-69 range, do people think this is too cold? I was thinking if most non-photos tolerated this range then I could have some very nice fish additions.

We will be working towards various gorgonions, tubastrea, then eventually the harded to keep dedronepthias and such.

Well, congrats for able to keep the temperature that cool without the aid of a chiller. I would kill for that ;) Now will you run into any issues, I honestly don't believe should have any issues with the non-photosynthetic corals at that temperature range. Now, depending what type of fish you are planning to stock the tank with, that is where you can run into difficulties with running the tank that cool.

I have to do some checking but the main display pair of fish is going to be a pair of bandit angels. These guys love it this cold. There also is a single sunburst anthias in there and loving the temperature currently. I have a couple other high end additions planned if they will tolerate the temperature in the high 60s a pair of chaoti leopard wrasses and a pair of candy basslets. Once I saw how cool the tank is running, I starting thinking about some catalina gobies but unsure yet.

I have never run a tank this cold but my main SPS reef I let go down to around 72 in the winter without any issues to all those fish and corals. I am thinking the fish will tolerate the high 60s without much issue, was more concerned about the corals.

The LPS I tried in this tank did not like it (temperary housing) as do the couple leathers I tried. There is a crocea clam and it seems to be doing great.

I am thinking the tank may tip down a little cooler and I will need to add a heater (more for stability do not want a 5 degree temperature swing all the time), when I add the continuous feeding plumbing - avanti mini fridge and bubble magus doser that is sitting here to go in eventually.

For sure!!!! There are plenty of fish that love the cool temperature. We don't see them regularly because we normally don't have our tanks that cold. You can google "cold water aquariums" and you will see some pretty spectacular tanks. I would think you just need to be careful your corals did not come from warm water. I wish I could drop mine a couple of degrees. Chiller on the wish list if anyone knows of someone selling one.

Good Morning tanglovers!

Your fish list looks very similar to mine and Austin's. ;)

How large are your Bandits?

I have been running mine in the mid to upper 60's and everyone is super happy.

Well one of my bandits is very, very similar to Austin's (it was his). That one is about 4.5". The other just came yesterday, was sort of tacked onto an order I had coming and is 3.75".

They have not been paired yet, I am unsure how it will go but time will tell, if it does not go well I will get a smaller one.
