Too much flow for clowns?

i have stock flow from my 24g nano cube dx its 290 gph. i ask cause it looks like they're struggling to swim. i have the nosle pointed up and against the glass to try and slow it up a bit. i just added them today so maybe they're just getting used to the tank?

I wouldnt worry about it. Thats only about 12x turnover. I have about 50x and my clowns are fine. If they are swimming they are fine. If they are getting blown and thrown around uncontrollably then its too much.

Clownfish in general live in the reefs and tidal zones where current is much more fierce than what we ususally provide. Your clowns are probably laughing at you that you actually posted your question about them getting to much flow...."silly human, this flow ain't nothing." :D :D :D.

seems like clowns like to swim in higher current than most reef fish...maybe its just mine but they are always riding the flow...

ok cool. yeah they were doing pretty good. ones in a lil cave i have and the smaller one's missing. i hope my emerald crab or serpent star didnt get it. i'm gonna feed everything in a sec here so maybe it'll pop out. if not time to check the overflow :-X

Your emerald crab is vegetarian and is WAY to slow to even catch a fish. It could be your serpent star depending on what species it is. Checking the overfow would be a good idea too.

No, they're omnivores, and I've had one catch a fish (dottyback). Definitely agree on checking overflow first though.

Nope not in the overflow. ive checked every little crack and crevice, i even used a spotlight lol. I'm not sure if i have the bad serpent star or not, it has a star pattern on its body. maybe it just died from the stress of being shipped and my nassarius snails ate it? it was really small

The Nassarius snails are not the culprit...I would say the serpent sea star but I can't be too sure without a proper ID.

yeah when it comes out of the rock work i'll get an i.d. to make sure. till then the new clown found the other one and there happily swimming together. gotta love clowns

I thought serpent star only eat dead fish

They are opportunistic feeders. Some species if given the chance will catch and eat a small fish.
