too much water flow in a BC 29

I put a maxijet in the third chamber. I trimmed down the wall between the first and second chamber as far as it will let you. But still the the stock powerhead plus the mj1200 are too much and they empty the third chamber faster than it can fill. What can I do?

I know I could do a closed loop but How do you drill a hole in that thick bulk head way under the water without getting plastic ribons all over your tank, and how do you get the drill under water. What are some other options?

this has been discussed many times on this site. i had the same problem. the expert from oceanic told me that if the tank is not perfectly level front to back this will occur. in other words if it is leaning enen slightly forward you are starving water from the rear of the tank. i solved my problem by canning the filter cartridge and makeing my on underneath the water difuser and on top of the bio balls. there are a number of combos you can come up with a good one would be a 2 narrow filter for hang on filter systems layed end to end or even overlaped slightly and there is even enough room to lay a piece of cut to fit blue filter media on top of that. i have been using the method for quite a while. it works great. if the think about it there is nothing magical about the stock filter. try it you will like it.

okay, if you read the posts, can't be done. there is a skimmer in chamber two. and my flow problem is bcause I have two pumps. (Mr. Joe Patterson) I keep my water levels at the top of the reading bar on the side of the tank. (4 inches abopve the maximum line).

Does anyone with a sapphire skimmer on the BC 29 know if there would be a problem if I just filled the whole tank and all the chambers in the back?

this would solve the problem of the third chamber being starved of water. Will this hinder the skimmer at all?

I have not tried filling the whole tank, but I also kept the stock return pump, and just chose to upgrade the flow with powerheads. As discussed from another thread, I began having problems with the heat, and had to buy a chiller. Do you have to upgrade the return pumnp? Can you live the maxijet in the main tank? I had no choice either, since I have the sapphire in chamber 2 also.

I put a closed loop in last night. I did not drill. I piped it all in above the bulk head works great. I got 500gph now. fish and coral are really happy.
