Top 5 most traded/circulated Zoas in the hobby?

Yea the Kedd Reds have been around for a long time. I think they do track back to an original colony. At least more so than Wham'n Watermelon or Radioactive Dragon Eye.

I also read where somebody was saying that the CAR and Bowser are the same. I tried looking at different ones form different sellers and there seems to be a difference to me.

wouldn't that be the original 10 Z's and P's that were first named and were the first sought after polyps like Tubbs Blues / AOGs and such since they have been in circulation the longest. Since were talking about most traded, not popular or what's hot now.

I don't believe that it is the CAR that is the same as the bowsers. I believe that it is the CAO. I have some bowsers and they look the same as the CAO

Yes! thats exactly what I'm talking about. Do you have any thoughts on what they would be?

I dont know that the "oldest" is the best metric, but they would need to date back many years and would need to date back to a single colony. Several morphs are collected over and over again while a few seem to be more or less unique and the only way to get them is to get a frag.

Totally new to the hobby. I paid a lot of money recently for a zoa that my LFS lady told me was super rare. I got home and did some research. They were eagle eyes. :sad2:

Sorry to hear RGCEsq..... that's marketing and some tactics individuals use now a days especially with folks that are new to reefkeeping. What were you told they were? and hope you didn't pay an arm and a leg.

Yea but the watermelons didn't come from one original colony. They did at first but then a new collection site must have opened up and they got crazy common. I think the same is true for Eagle eyes.

Tubbs, AOG and DA are prob close to pure though.

And

Note to new posters, as posted by 650-IS350, this thread is about old zoanthid genetic lines in the hobby that can only be acquired from frags of other colonies, not color morphs that are continually coming in from wild collections.

For example, Wham'n Watermelon does not make the list because they do not generally come from my original colony that I got in 2003. The ones you see are typically just wild collected.

Please keep posting! I'd like a comprehensive list but here are some requirements for making the list:

1) Must only be available by frag from someone with established colony
2) In the hobby for at least 2-3 years
3) Has achieved popular circulation (not particularly rare anymore)

List updated with these posts in mind, thanks for the input!

Tubbs, AOGs, Devils Armors, watermelons, eagleeyes etc for example are the original ones i believe.

So originally I wanted to know what morphs track back to single colony's, perhaps I could have picked a better title but I'd like to keep going here. I'll keep adding to the list as others give input.

What's the deal with My Clementines? How long have they been around?
