Top down shots

I tested alk & Calc over the weekend & they were---

Alk--8.3
Calc--425

That's where I traditionally run Alk from 8-9 & Calc around that 425

I just tested my Mg for your question & it's 1100.

My Mg is always 1100. I don't dose Mg. IO salt tests out at 1100 & my 10% water changes a week keep it there. I don't bother concerning myself with keeping it at 1285.

It's one of those numbers I prefer not to chase............there's plenty of Mg for the corals & 1100 is not low enough to cause percipitation or calcification problems.

I do check every new box of salt I use to make sure it's at 1100.

Hello,

Beautiful corals you have there. I have few questions if you don't mind. I have the exact same corals as your Soli I think (Judging from the pictures). But it keep going downward into an umbrella like you mentioned in another thread. Do you have any idea why they are doing that? Is it because of too much light? What kind of light are you running? I gave my friend a piece of it and he put it in a less light area and it has been growing flat and a little bit upward. The body is more darker as well. So right now I am experimenting with my corals. Currently I put it up very high and so far it is growing downward even more. After a few months, I will move it down to a bottom of the tank.

Thanks,
Bao

Very nice job.I'm glad to see somebody letting natural processes prevail.Spending a boatload of cash to achieve a "0" number of something seems like a lot of waste.Be patient and be consistant and enjoy your little piece of reef.If the the numbers don't match somebody else's tank but your tanks happy ,leave it alone, its:beer: your tank and you did something right

Thanks Bao,

On the growth pattern of the Soli................it's all about the flow. If you want it to branch straight out run flow below & just above.

If it's hit with flow from above & straight down it will unbrella.

If you hit the coral straight on at the growing edge you'll get stubbier edges & the coral will grow some branches upward & down.

I'm running T5's....color changes will be affected more than growth pattern on the level you keep it at. If you keep it too low the body will be browner & not green. The majenta growth tips won't be as bright & more towards a dark purple.

For color I'd keep it mid level.

Thanks pur water!

I can tell you I've enjoyed this setup more than any Sps system I've kept over the past 12years. I actually sit back & enjoy looking at it instead of fretting over numbers & looking for something to fix.

The best part I've gotten out of it so far is better patience. The changes are rewarded, but over a month or two & not in the short term satisfaction of meeting a number.

I'll update my album tonight, tank is only 4 months old and set up in my showroom at work (good stress relief!).85 gallons no sump no mechanical filter ,just carbon running 2weeks on and 3 days off and wet skimming for water changes 5 gallons per week.

Gotta bump this for more pics..... Great tank

and to be clear your method is?

BB tank
Skimmer
Carbon Dosing
Water Changes
Passive carbon in mesh
NO GFO

Right?

What about ca/alk dosing? Do you use pumps or hand dosing? No sand anywhere in tank? Refugium? Chaeto?

JDK,

Yes that's right

I hand dose ca/alk but do have Magus doser, that I am going to set up eventually. I have a small handful of sand for the anemone in the tub, otherwise, barebottom. No refugium or Chaeto.

I mounted all the frags a few weeks ago, now I'm anxious to see them grow.

A few group shots--

I bought an anemone crab about 4 weeks or so ago & he disappered into the reef. I was excited to see him show up in the nem last week. The female nigripes seem to be fine with it.

I liked the color grouping in this shot. I needed to pull back more to get them all in focus but I still like this one.

A few updated frag shots---

Rouge has really sprouted since I mounted it.

Here's a comparison shot of the papillare about 6 weeks apart. The one on the right is today. You can see the polyps are turning green & the coralites are darker.

Peach rainbow has doubled the sprouts.......there's close to 50.

Wow that orange and green mili is amazing. Love the red one too.

Do you use any Kalk in your ATO? Also what bulb combo are you using? Got my ati sunpower coming this week and have to decide on bulbs.

Loving the pics.....

Thanks for the compliments guys!

JDK,

I'm using two blue+ & two coral+ on an ice cap ballast

I dose Randy's two part by hand.
