My LFS has recently closed down and i have no nearby place to get my top off water... I was curious as if buying distilled water would work or what else i could do... Please respond!!!

Distilled water works but it can get expensive at $1/g depending where you get it.

Granted it would take awhile to break even with $150 for a good BRS RO unit but depending on your size tank and how much water you go through I would research which RO unit would be best for you. A quick search will give you a wealth of info

I've been buying ros/di water for $0.25 per gallon and mixing salt water myself. You can search for pure water store and see if there's one near where you live. GL.

The Air Water Ice web site sells Reverse Osmosis/Deionized water systems (RODI). It is not cheap, and as you are 14, you might not have the money to get a system, because they are a few hundred dollars. But you might want to remind your parents that the holidays are coming, and also remind them how much easier it will be to just make your own RODI water instead of having to take you to the stores to get some. BTW you can also get RODI water at the local supermarket. At 24 to 40 cents per gallon, it mounts up.

Get a RODI from Air, Water, Ice. I got my 25GPD system for my nano for like $100 bucks and it saves making trips to the store every week to get 10 gallons of water. I just make about 2.5 gallons a day or less and thats all she wrote.

Sorry, i'm only 14... Young member of this hobby, but its sooooo fun to do. :D

Buy a 3-5 stage Reverse Osmosis system and you will easily be able to hook it up to the cold feed under a sink in a bathroom or kitchen, depending on where your tank is located. Buy a brute40-50g trash can with a lid to hold the RO water for evap top off and water changes. Be sure to change out the membrane every 6-8 months, as well as the micron, carbon,DI ect

I have an AWI unit for my tank. I would recommend waiting to pick a unit up until next week when the thanksgiving sales hit. BRS had a great deal last year on a 4 stage. Pickup an extra DI cartridge while you are at it.

I would also recommend getting a hookup for your faucet. It is easier to control in my eyes and doesn't involve any plumbing changes that could upset your parents. It simple screws on the output replacing the standard nozzel.
