Okay, can you tell us how you manage to keep what is supposed to be an obligate corallivore in a reef tank? What do you feed it, how often, etc.? Would love to have a pair of these babies.

Not much info out there on semilarvatus but I don't believe they are OCs.
A pair would be fantastic!
My semi takes mysids, krill and naturally occurring tank fare.

My thread on RC is called Junior's Reef. Lots of details on the whole shebang.

Well, I misremembered about "obligate" but there is a confusing mishmash of recommendations on this fish as regards what they will/won't decimate in the reef tank. I guess your success proves they are safe with SPS, at least.

I wouldn't label semi as "SPS safe"

Copperband and Klein's are much more compatible with SPS (IME)
And remember...
"Reef safe" is a fairly useless term. Always research specific species compatibilities.

That's where the trouble begins. Fishbase says the semilarvatus has a non-specific diet of benthic animals it picks for from the substrate. From there, various retailers' sites say it is safe with soft corals but not hard, or vice versa.

I think the fact that you are successful keeping semilarvatus with a mix of SPS and softies is encouraging, at least.

Lots of benthic animals in minimal substrate here.
Semi does rely heavily on aquarium fare.

All of my liverock was really alive... no dead dry rock.
I'm one of those "diversity is better" types.
