TOTM quality 6' SPS tank for under $1k? The 5.56 build thread; AKA a really bad idea

Sounds to me like you're answering your own questions ;)

I agree with Nick on the Fluval. Nice pump and not hard to find one used at a reasonable price. You can even try Amazon. Might find a return or open box, something like that

Who's bulkhead do I want to use? That's one place to not save money

This is for the overflow

and I guess I'll use the rio to get my by till I get a fluval or one of the tunzie DC pumps :)

EDIT: never-mind on the bulkhead, I'm screwed. The hole is only 1 3/4" Really narrows down which bulkheads I can use :(

Hey no going over budget on that Tunze...

Total spent now $214.47

That's fairly prophetic. Just not with the return pump. Granted, I have only been researching this for a few days but at this point I have come to the conclusion that my best value for in tank flow will be a gyre created with 2 tunze 6105's. That's half what I have left less the proceeds of selling my existing equiptment and some money I have in paypal from selling aquarium stuff on eBay.

Just spent $14.47 at Home Depot for overflow hose. Momma wants to check the tank for leaks before we go any further. I'll post a photo of it cleaned and full of tap water in a bit.

If I had it, I'd donate it but I already donated a a return pump to another reefer. Maybe someone else is feeling charitable and generous

And no leaks!

Thanks Rik, seriously thank you. The Rio will work fine until an opertunity presents itself. I'm probably 3 months out before my first acro.

Find yourself some used 6100s ... the older style... or is that the ones you were talking about previously? 6105s are beasts, I think you could get away with two 6095s with the wide flow nozzles for your tank. Would save you a few bucks anyway. Just be patient and buy them used and you won't break your whole budget.

If you can't find a Fluval, look for Sicce or Eheim pumps. Those are the only 3 pump brands I would trust on my tank.

Tank looks perfect in that spot. [emoji1303][emoji1303]

It's jsut that I'm running out of budget. I am really tempted to pull the trigger on this pump but I really have to watch mu budget... I have plenty of budget right now but there's still a long way to go.

When I hooked up that 3100, it made a lot of noise and didn't pump much... opened it up and the impeller had been heavily, well we will say "modified" because you cant say ****ed up on reef central but it was bent and crooked and missing parts. I'm running a Rio 2500 just for testing purposes.

Perhaps I get a impeller for that sedra 9000 and just sell the ASM body?

LOL!!!

She cleaned the sump too :)

Here's the kicker, she's a great mom and drop dead georgous too. And coffee is ready for me every morning.

But if there is a powerhead on that front pane of glass (the one you see when you walk in the house) she will go ballistic.

wait, forget about the tank, I want to know how you do this. :)
my wife's constantly on facebook, so no time to do anything else. :)

Bean Machine,

There was no cheating, I just play hard :D

same thing, you are not playing hard unless you are cheating. :)

Well, she didn't mow the lawn this week so the front yard does look a little ratty.

I'll cut her some slack because the tank looks great and she did take me and the kids out camping on the beach for a few days this week.

Nice build

I have a Sicce Syncra 3.5 that you can have if you want it. Works but impeller is busted open and rusted so that has to be replaced to get it going again. If you can get Sicce to "donate" another impeller then good to go.

So I need help figureing out this sump. I think the first section is for the sock and skimmer, the 2nd section is a fuge and the last section is for the return, probes and ATO. Here is the thing, I have never kept the skimmer in that deep of water. It's actually 12" deep in the skimmer section. Is that too deep?
