TOTM quality 6' SPS tank for under $1k? The 5.56 build thread; AKA a really bad idea

I have been struggling with filamentous alage (hair alage) for almost a month now. I have added 3 seahairs (overage now $549.95) and manual removal and reducing feeding and it seems to finaly be turning the corner.

Here are the surviving corals and frags from snoob's tank breakdown.

I took these photos last week and these Corel keep getting beter and better looking.

Some of my alage woes are visible in some of these pics

Marc named all these corals as when he gave them to me and they are all very nice corals. Silly me can’t remember the names of any of them but the are all really beautiful coral

LMAO Vlamingi is about 12” and it’s a 6’ tank so that’s just about to scale LOL

I got a 16-85MM lens now so I can take a nose FTS now.

Today is the 1 year anniversary of purring salt and rocks and coral in the tank.

I'm a little over budget but not by much

I'll post some FTSs this weekend

I have been losing SPS colonies for the last 6 or so weeks. starts at the base or the tips and a few days later POOF! that coral is gone. Fish, Zoas and LPS seem fine. I know I have nutrient issue and my SG is a bit low but neither of those issues should be causing the RTN. I see a few high levels of metals and am looking for direction on how to combat that

Mark the link requires logging in. Are you using a marine pur block or any white media? A lot of people feel the leach aluminum. Do the water changes you were planning to with the Tropic Marin salt you got at RAP. It sbould help with everything.

Maybe that rats nest under your tank is rusting? Check your impellers and magnets for rust. Does your alk fluctuate? Personally I don't think you have a nutrient issue. Tanks run fine at those n03 and po4 numbers.

Yea, I have been using the bioblocks I won in the SCMAS raffle a few months ago

Lucky me!

Did a 50% WC on Thursday.
