Train Clownfish to enter Anemone?

Is it possible to train a clownfish to enter an anemone? I know that just because you have an anemone doesn't mean it will host clownfish, but I'm just seeing there is a way to encourage the clownfish to enter it.

IMO, the best way it just to give it time. Some will suggest putting the clowns in a confined space with the anemone, sort of forcing the clowns to be hosting. IMO, that is a very bad idea, could very well end up with eaten clowns.

What type of anemone?
What type of clowns?

It's a green bubble tip anemone with 2 false perc clowns.

I've read that if you put a picture up on the side of the tank showing clowns in a similar anemone, they will follow suit. However, I don't know if this works.

I'm still promoting the Sfork method.

1) put flower pot in tank
2) clowns host pot (clean cave)
3) put bta in pot
4) ??????
5) Profit!

6) Hide pot with rocks, also makes moving the anemone 1000X easier later on.

If your anemone is already attached to something. hang a picture up like snulma said :)

OH TRUST ME THE PICTURE THING WORKS!! LOL they went in OVERNIGHT! LOL try it!

Heard and seen this a number of times, and this is about the safest way to coax them, not like it costs anything, worth a try.
Agree that you should not try to force it, patience.

Im going t put a picture on my tank tonight to see if it works for me or not..its worth a shot !!! right now they just swim around so maybe they will take interest.

I feed my Seabea some silverside before feeding and the clown go crazy looking for it. They know where it is but it seems like they are afraid of the anenome. I am going to try the picture thing. Should I put the picture in front of the anenome?

I put the picture on my tank last night, but no moving to the gbta yet.

One thought I had though. My gbta is on the opposite end of the tank as my open brain, which is currently hosting the clowns.

Should I put the picture in front of the brain where the clowns spend most of their time or should I put the picture over by the gbta?

Or should I move the brain closer to the gbta to get the clowns to spend more time in that area?

I had my clowns being hosted by the corner of my aquarium... I directed a powerhead to where they were hanging... They were no longer comfortable and had to find a new spot..

I woke up in the morning and they were in the anemone..

Anyone have any thoughts?

Well this works for me about half the time maybe a little better. Clowns are pretty dense. ;)
Just after lights out i mean just after while the fish are still acclimated to the tank lights shine a flashlight on the nem illuminating it so its the only thing that has light on it. It has drawn clowns for me before to it to sleep in. I just did it tonight to get a black and white oc pair into my new haddoni. Funny watching them get stung, But they quickly shrugged it off. Now they are in the new home. Lets see if the nem eats them tonight. This is the first night i attempted with this nem it as i wanted the nem to settle in first before i sent the clowns in.
It did not work for a green haddoni and my old percs.

Wild clowns utilise anemones due to them being a defense against predators. In captivity, where there are no such predators, clownfish do not require the adsence of anemones.
Forcing (or even something as little trying) to get them into the anemone will asure a shorter lifespan for the anemone (it can get over a 200 years in the wild, yet almost never over 5 years in captivity) and a less happy life for the clown.
They can be very happy without anemones, as long as there are no predators.

This, by the way, also leads to another option as an answer to your quetion: you can add a predator, and the clown will surely go into the anemone. This can obviously get the clownfish killed, though. However you can simulate predators through many ways (including pictures).

clownfish will never look at a picture and host an anemone....that has to be IMO the most rediculios thing i have ever heard of come on now...just pick an anemone that suits the type of clown and they will do the rest.....and never fource a clown into one as they will be eaten. The clowns need to build its coat against the anemones sting...

i have a maroon clown , i put a pic of a regular clown up in an anemone and itsaw it and swam away, ichanged the pic to a morron cloewn in an anemone and it swam up to it and right up to it, and looked at it for a while till i walked up close and it swam away,i just did it, so i will let u know what happens, iof it hosts or not. hope so
