Hey all, I've got a mantis in my tank well two of them that I know of. I've been tryen to catch them with no luck I've been usen the diy trap where you cut the top of a water bottle off and reverse it into the bottle. My question is HELP lol is there some food that they just go nuts for or is there a better trap?? Another thing is I have no idea where there holes are cause I see them all over the tank they come in and out all differnt holes. So I'm not able to put the trap right in front of there hole. And theres noway for me to just pull a rock out while one is in it. They tend to stay in the bottom rocks, And there hudge with alot of other rocks ontop of them. Any help at all would be great,
Here is a couple pics of one. The other one lookes black/green and is a lil smaller. He doesnt' come out much and I haven't bothered tryen to take a picture of him yet.

Sorry the pics arent' to good.

Mantis!

Mantis!

Can I have the other one?

There are many different Idea's for traps on google, maybe you will have luck with one. Most of all be patient, it can take a while before they go for the traps.

sakattack7 - You always beat me to the punch...maybe we will both have our mantis' before we grow old...

Looks like we have some new competition in Dolfan0925!

:D

I never knew it would be this hard to get one!

im geting 20lbs from tbs so if i find one ill let u know im doing a 18gal hex with a pair of green dragonnets hey dont flame me they eat frozen food my lfs only sells them if they do same for blue ribbon eels and stuff well ttyl

ecugman - hopefully!! we just gotta keep on searching

majestic sea life - I have no problem buying the mantis, or the live rock, just not worth the 80 bucks to ship!!!!

Plus we can give a good home to an unwanted Mantis that would probably end up in the freezer or flushed.

lol well thats all very interesting guys,, But I still need to catch them :( I plan on keeping the red one thats in the pic but as of right now I have no use for the black one.

Noone has any suggestions for catchen them??

Mantis traps...

Mantis traps...

There are lots of trap ideas, you can google them up, but basically whatever you try you have to give it some time, they need to grow acustomed to the new trap in the tank, I mean after all, if you walked out your front door one morning and saw a giant box with a bigmac sitting in it.. would you run right in???

As for food I dont think Mantis are very picky, a nice chunk of shrimp should do it.

Ty for the reply,, Yeah Ive seen a couple of differnt traps, Just wondering what everyone has had luck with ie bates and what brand/type trap. I will keep tryen the bottle trap for now.

Hi,

I caught one using frozen shrimp, however I've set the traps probably 4-5 times since I caught the first one with no results.
Still tons of clicking from both my tanks.

Mahahah I got one. I used a piece of white shrimp and some cyclopeeze. I just got the cyclopeeze the other day at a lfs. Everything in the tank seems to go nuts over it, I think thats what did it. I put the trap in, sat down and watched. He climbed in with in a few mins. What ever it was I got one.:D
