Treating DT with Prazipro question

I know to remove the carbon filters (don't have any), turn off skimmer, turn off UV. Do I remove the 200 micron bag filter in the sump during treatment? 400 gallon Fowler, fairly heavy bio load. Bag filter in return of 40 gallon refugium.

Is a bag filter like a filter sock? If so, then no need to remove it. I had to dose my display 3 times with Prazi, and never removed mechanical filtration.

Keep an eye on those socks during treatment. PraziPro tends to cause a significant bacterial bloom that will quickly clog your filter socks. I had to change mine much more frequently than I did before treatment. They get really slimy too. Ugh.

Well the treatment seems to have worked. My Kole tang is now eating like a pig again. You are correct about the filtration. The bag filters filled up quicker. I did a 25% water change, turned the UV back on, and turned the skimmer back on. The skimmer still had to be turned down to 20% air flow which normally runs at 60% air flow due to the Prazipro or it would overflow like crazy. I may need another water change to get everything back to normal with the skimmer....

Glad to hear the treatment worked :thumbsup:. I know you don't normally run carbon, but if you have the capability to run it at least temporarily, it will help to remove the remnants of the Prazi more quickly.

Even though the fish are doing well i wouldve done a second treatment to assure all fluke parasites are dead and prazi doesnt always kill the egss.

I actually did do two treatments; just failed to mention it. I figured if it is worth doing it is worth doing right.

Does anyone know why you have to turn off uv during treatment? Sorry to high jack.

Ultraviolet radiation degrades the medication. Skimming and carbon remove it. Thus, the need to discontinue these filtration methods while using Prazi.
