Is vitamin C good to kill the algea? Has nayone tried it on a Sps tank with ill affects?
Michael
According to that article, it should kill off algae (at least some of it). I wish I had some before pics of my SPS. I just didn't expect the fantastic growth to occur that I an witnessing. Some of my smaller SPS have doubled in size, since treating. All have great new growth on them. I do not keep a SPS-dominated tank & do not treat the tank as such, so most have grown quite slowly, in the time I had them--before the VC.

I wish we could have a link to that article at the top of each of these pages. I know this thread has gotten way too long for most to bother reading so I will continue to link to the article when necessary.

Put the link in your signature.

So how much of a break are you taking from dosing, as the article suggests after a certain period?

I'm a little confused about that. When I stopped for a week, some of the polyps started closing again. I will probably not dose the week I go on vacation in March. I'll probably stopp dosing everything, since I don't trust anyone else to do that, while I'm gone.

Amish don't like technology

I take offense to that as I am not Amish and I do not have the new fangled internet--so I can't reply as to why I am offended. I did just buy one of those new BETA machines for the movies. I hit 65 PPM today

within the next couple of years. I am waiting for the price too drop--I will give you a buzz AM unless that is bad for you

Well I am at the 50ppm point in the dosing and really haven't noticed any differences as of yet. I will continue to dose and see if things change. I am dosing both in my display and my frag vat.

I dosed for a couple days (two days at 1/8 tsp and then at 1/4 tsp calcium ascorbate , twice daily) and then noticed a section of my wall hammer coral was bleaching and the mouth was gaping open. This happened very quickly, seemingly overnight. While I'm sure this was coincidental, now I'm torn -- my gut reaction was to stop dosing, since it's the only thing I've changed in my tank recently, but part of me is wondering if dosing Vit C will help this coral recover.

Any thoughts?

You should do a experiment, and just dose one of the tanks... to compare results.

They aren't really similar systems unfortunately. No fish in the frag vat; algae issues in the main tank; most zoas/palys in the frag vat for the time being while I work on the algae issue (perhaps it will help with the algae as others have noticed). If I don't notice a change I may stop of them to see what happens.

Jeff, I'm back to work now. I can't start work at 1 in the afternoon!

Good to hear you are working again. I will be calling soon.
BTW, what does it feel like not wearing pajamas all day ;)

My knee hurts!! I am off work now for the next 7 weeks minimum. It's your fault!

I have a huge, show-size frogspawn in my 90g & am dosing a teaspoon (4480mg) of C 2x/day, with no ill affects on it or any of my other LPS. Clams & anemones look great.

Is it possible that a clump of Ca Vit got in the mouth of the hammer?
