Treating with Vitamin C

Odd... My GSP is the thickest carpet of green I've ever seen it & my RBTA now has nice, fat bubble tips. What kind of VC are you using?

Has anyone else noticed any reaction in either GSP or anemones to their own VC dosing?

I took my dosing up to the 15-20 ppm level in my 220 when I started and have been running around 5-6 ppm for the last 6-8 weeks and my anemone is huge. I didnt notice the same reaction you did. I dont feed it directly, it gets its food from the water when I feed the tank and its getting big.

No real adverse reactions, but it cause every one of my sinularia's to close and shed (3 diff tanks, 1 pulsing, 2 encrusting).

It's so odd, the different reactions folks are getting to VC & I'm dosing higher/for the longest than any of you. I've been dosing about 4 months & am now up to 2tsp/100g system (about 23ppm) & 1/2 tsp in my 40g (both 2x/day). My leathers are HUGE & have polyps out all the time. I have a neon green toadstool that has grown 5x it's size, if not larger.

The reactions are indeed wild, especially with the variations (although I see a lot of other variables here as well). I think your assumption in my case that the shedding was an adverse effect. If you're seeing massive jumps in leather size, shedding is one of the first steps I've seen in sinularia growth spurts.

None the less, I stopped dosing a week or so ago and waited for them to stop. I'll start again and see if it happens a second time. I'll also keep dosing and see if they stay closed, or if they start shedding and open back up.

Decided to try this out...........500 mg for the 65 gallon and 250 mg for the 30 to start...........Just to make sure I have it correct i should be dosing about 3000 mg a day for the 65 and about 1500 mg a day for the 30 after a break in period of 2-3 weeks right? And I did tank before pictures and I hope to show some results in time.

Awesome thread.......lots of info.

I am dosing about 1/8 tsp per day in my 35 hex.I had a frag of tubbs blues that would not open for 3 weeks, when I started dosing vit C,they opened within 2 to 3 days! I also have a frag of PPE that now after only having it for 6 weeks has a baby on it.My yellow leather looks much better and is beginning to grow,I have had it for 3 years and it isn't much larger than a silver dollar. The new lighting may be helping the leather but all my zoas are open more and more.

Puffy is out of town and I am stuck tank sitting for her 7 tanks :p
Here is the cheater list for dosing:

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC

Keep in mind that this is the dose used twice a day. Most people have been dosing around 5 ppm twice a day for general improvement. If you have problems that you need the vitamin C to correct such as fish or coral health then dose up to 30+ ppm until your problem is solved and then bring the amount down. Go slowly at first and watch your alk and ph.

Please tell me you took "before" pictures :p
It seems that most people, including myself at first, were scared to start dosing the vitmain. Before and after pictures are what helps people make the decision to start dosing.

okay, so after dosing for about a week, I had a huge dinoflagellate break out. I don't know if there is a connection, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem

I have heard of a couple similar breakouts when people first start dosing and if I had to guess as to a cause I would tend to think that it is caused by the de-toxifying effect of the vitamin. If there was an underlying problem with algae, the suddenly clear water would help feed increased light and/or nutients to the dinos.

Its a little easier to get a comparison when posting before and after shots of certain corals that have improved side by side. Kind of like the before and after weight loss :p .

Ok I have some before and after pics and I put them on my website since theres a lot and I dont want to bog down the site. I havent taken any REALLY new ones but I will as soon as I get the tank presentable.. lol I'm having a red algae outbreak and I just had a filter, powerhead and my skimmer die   so I'll get them on here eventually... Why can't anything ever go right!?
