Treating with Vitamin C

Puffy, did you have that turf algae before dosing vitamin C? I just started getting low growth in my chaeto and the chaeto is getting red turf algae on it. This all started around the time I started running vitamin C. I dont have any of the algae in the main tank though, just on the chaeto and a little on the pipe that dumps water into my sump.

I had a powerhead die and my skimmer this week and I'm starting to get red algae... I have a powerhead coming to me from a friend so if he can just get here with it maybe it'll go away?... lol

Hi,

I started treating with Vitamin C 7 days ago. My zoas have been closed up for well over 2 months now. I thought the issue was a hair algae overgrowth but that got corrected about 3 weeks ago the zoas have been clean since then but still fail to open up. Hence the Vitamin C. So, I was wondering, if I'm going to see an improvement when do most people start to see the difference? I've been skimming through this thread trying to find some info on response times but I must be missing those posts.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi,

I have about 75 gallons of total water volume. Today I dosed a total of 6gm. I've been escalating the dose more slowly to see if I could get away with less than 50ppm. Plus, the dose for 50 ppm just makes me a bit nervous.

I'm using generic vitamin C 500mg tablet that was on sale at my local pharmacy.

Thanks,

Andy

Again not sure if this is because of the Vit C or not, but my friend had these in his tank and they just kept melting away and dissapearing. The entire rock was covered with PDeaths. When I got the rock not one polyp was visible.

This is the rock after 3 weeks in my tank.

alright im game...i finally after reading so much of this thread started dosing vitamin c.i took some before pics i'll post them as soon as i get home.

Ok I have been dosing for about 2 weeks now, and it seems a few of my sps are not opening their polyps anymore. Dosing at 5ppm in approx 150gal system. On the other hand, one bta has split and now all my btas have bubble tips. Interesting.

I don't have before pics or after pics but wasn't really dosing to fix a problem, just trying to improve growth. some of my zoas that were being overgrown are now peeking out and looking better. Too bad I lost an acropora, but it was teetering between receding and stabilizing in terms of growth, but no real progress forward. So maybe this result was inevitable. But it was a really nice fluorescent green that just glowed under my lights.

Well hopefully those few corals will turn around soon.

Had a brown algae break outbreak the very next day after dosing with the powder vit c, is this normal??

I used the 500mg tablets from costco previous to this and no algae at all.

Has anybody that has stopped using vitamin C had any of their problems come back yet?

Well, I guess it's good news that no one seems to have had their problems re-occur after stopping the dosing, or they havent checked this thread in a few days...

Ok I seem to be the only one having a problem. Mine is with dkh being extremely high. Last week it got to 30 dkh so I stopped dosing and done a 10 gal water change (55 gal tank with about 45 gal water) I waited 3 days and done a 5 gal water change. It got down to about 16 dkh. I started dosing today again. I dosed 2x today with 1890 mg and it is back up to 21 dkh now. Last time I thought it got real high because I used proper ph 8.2. This time I have not used anything. This morning ph was 8.2 and tonight it is 7.8. I have seen a huge improvement in my zoas before I stopped dosing Vit c. Now most of them are closed and do not look real good. After dosing today some started opening again. However, what can I do to control the dkh from getting so high. Thanks

What product are you dosing with? This is the first time I have heard of somebody having increased alk.
