Treating with Vitamin C

I agree. When I have backed off dosing, the zoas started melting again. I am treating for algae right now with a product which reduces O2 levels (which VC also does), so I can't dose VC for the 20 days. I hope everything will be ok.

My heater shorted and was replaced over a month ago but since then my zoas only 1/2 open. i still have good growth rates but nothing will open completely. i don't get it. anyone have any ideas? i'm starting vit c when it comes in tomorrow & hope that will help =)

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I've got a friend who bought an automatic feeder on Ebay & he's trying that out. Since it's for feeding dry foods, it really shouldn't get wet. I wonder how much room is in each of those chambers though. I am dosing 2 tsp in my tank at night.

Personally, I don't mind dosing everything by hand. It's a labor of love. I dose Ca & alk nightly too.

I ordered one on Saturday, same thought, about the size. You can program it to dispense 5 times a day....my thought was to dived the amount by 4 and set it for every 8 hours.

Any thought on that?

i think thats a great idea. i was just gonna dose every 12 hrs but your idea seems better. let us all know how it works for you. i'm sure i'm not the only one thats interested.

I just received my order of buffered VC today and am going to start dosing tonight.

I saw the chart that lists the PPM for 100 gallons and converted it to my 40g system, however I am having a hard time finding the dosing schedule to use (5ppm first day, etc). Can someone point me to a good schedule?

I have a few colonies that are not fully opening like they were when I first got them.

I also have a few that appear to be melting away. Some are perfectly fine though.

Start with 1/4 tsp for 3 days, then go to 1/2 tsp for 3 & then a whole tsp. Keep it at that for a while & see what happens. Dose 2x/day. If the tank gets cloudy, reduce by 1/4 tsp.

Is that 1/4 tsp 2x's a day or am I doing 1/8 2x's a day.

Are you just dumping this in or mixing it with water first?

that was a test...divide the amount by 4 and set it for every 6 hours, (not 8)......I sure was trying to put 32 hs. in a day.

I'll let you know how much they hold too.

Does anyone dose prodibio & vodka w/this? I do both and am looking to maybe dose VC, but don't know if this could be a deadly combo, or cause negative affects.

I would not dose any other product at the same time as VC, that reduces O2 levels. Vodka also does this, I believe Prhoibido is ok but please check it out 1st. VC is compltely used up in the system within 8 hours, so don't dose again before this. Be sure you have good airation in your system, to compensate for the reduction in O2. My Backpac skimmers seem to do this fine, for my smaller tanks.

i didn't catch it!! but wouldn't it be better to dose every 8 hours since vit c supposedly lasts 8 hours in water? Then the tank would have a constant suppl of vit c. That would also mean less work since the 24 compartments would last 8 days.

does the vit c reduce o2 levels for 8 hours? if so do you think dosing every 8 hours could cause harm by keeping o2 levels low and never letting them get a chance to increase?

No, it won't lower the O2 for 8 hours. I'm not exactly sure how long, as I've never tested for this but also have never had any problems because if it. I have a ton of flow in my tank, a great skimmer & lots of aggitation from the overflow into my sump.
