Pufferpunk, What do you think about posting a previous or current fts. That would be good to have on the first page here I think. So folks can see your beautiful zoas and palys, etc.
:)
And along with that, how about putting up the dosing chart with a cheat sheet on how to start and where to get the ascorbic acid we are using. This thread is getting crazy long!

I use this product:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=-7152293197697039798
$5 0ff coupon code: LUL789
1/4 tsp=1112 mg.

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC
Dose 2x/day.

I have made it easier by rounding off with 1/4-2 tsps in my tanks.
Be sure your pH is around 8.2 & your alk is around 9-10, before you start. Keep an eye on both (I test weekly, now that I notice no changes).

Be sure to take some "before" pics!

90g, w/20g sump & 20g fuge. 6-T5 bulbs. I dose Pedlow & homemade alk daily, along with VC 2x/day. Mag about every 2 months.

i now have a crazy headache from trying to read everything from the very first post! i started dosing awhile ago and now i see that i am going to have to start over and actually figure out the right amount i need to use. there is just way toooooo much info to read thru.

BTW awesome find and thanks for sharing all of the info with us.

Guy

Pufferpunk... That tank is awesome!!! Everything looks great!! I would recommend using the link to buy your VC. I bought some here locally at an herb store and online. I got at least 4 times the amount for cheaper online than at the herb store. I even paid more at the herb store.

Greetings. I have follwed this thread off and on for a while and have found it interesting and am thinking of starting the treatment.
My question is, "What/How does the Vit C improve the health of the system?"
Is this an example of carbon dosing or does the Vit C work on the zoas like it does for humans?
I am sure this has been answered before but it is hard to search while at work. Thanks and very nice tank pufferpink.

We aren't 100% sure but there is info in the Reef Chemistry forum. It could be that it also helps build the collagen in the cells of corals, in addition to being a carbon source, lowering nitrate & helping better skimmer function. All I know is, I've been dosing for over a year now & my zoas have never looked better, where I could barely keep any at all before dosing.

I read the first 40 pages and then started reading every 4th page. I just ordered the recommended product from iHerb.com with the discount code and will begin dosing when it arrives. I have a good digital SLR and will take before and status pictures and provide updates. Most of my zoas are fine, but I'm very interested in the impact on new zoa frags, SPS growth and red slime.

I don't know if my engineering degree gives me more credibility or ability to be scientific about my findings, but I'll provide what I find.

Won't do anything for cyano, I can tell you that. What code did you use? It's changed since the very beginning of this thread.

Code LUL789 as quoted on the last page of this thread. "No impact" on red slime would be an acceptable finding. I suppose I'm equally interested in zoa growth rate since I have some log of how many polyps of my favorite new zoas I've had over the last few weeks.

It has been scientifically proven that if you watch your polyps TOO closely it reduces growth

I just bought some Vitamin C from Costco and wanted to start dosing. Since this thread is sooooo big there is no way I can go through it all. I was going to start with what the OP started 2k MG per day, 1k in the morning, 1k at night. My tank is a 55g with 30g sump.

i got some vitamin c for Sams club. Its Members Mark Vit C 500 mg per tablet. ingredients: ascorbic acid, celluluse, corn starch, hyrpomellose, crospovidone, stearic acid, rose hips, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl cellulose.

Wrong stuff. You don't want all that filler in your tank. Get the pure, sodium ascorbate--it's buffered.

Take 4 of those pills/day & you probably won't get a cold this winter. ;)

The ones I bought have the same ingredients but so did all the vitamin C tablets I looked at at 3 stores.
