Treating with Vitamin C

I am thinking about trying out the vitamin C dosing and ordered some of the kind you recommended from iherb.

I often go out of town on the weekends and would miss three doses assuming that that I will be dosing 2x/day. Do you think that this would have a negative effect on my system? What do you do on vacation? Just have the caretaker dose for you even though if they no nothing about SW tanks??

Why, did you dose for me while I was gone?

sniff sniff :(
Yes, it was one of the things to do on your two page list of things to do...

WOW

WOW

So after reading a few (30) pages i went a head and ordered some VC and will began to dose as soon as it gets here... i do ahve a few ? s though... as of now i have a mainly zoo nano (6gal) i do a 1-2 gal water change about every 3 days. NOt having a sump should i mix the VC in with the water i use for my water change? and i know this gets asked alot but how much should i use since theres only about 4 gals maybe less of water in my tank? and from what i gather i should NOT run any type of filter (pads ) on the tank? your advice would be great.
Thanks
milhse

i got 20 gal tank, been dosing it last 2 months and last 2 wks i dose @ 1/4 tsp, then raise to 1/2 tsp last 2 days and tank got cloudy. would it clear it soon?

thanks guys...

Did you use the $5 off coupon?

I don't have a sump in my 2 smaller tanks (40 & 15g) & add it under the skimmer cup but you probably don't have a skimmer on a 6g. I think you should go ahead & dilute the VC in your RO water & use it as a top off. You are probably topping off 1-2x/day, right? I mean, even if it's just a cup, 2x/day.

What are you dosing for? As far as how much to use--although you can't really overdose, it's going to be hard to measure for such a tiny tank. I add about 1/8 tsp to my 15g, so try 1/2 of that, if you have a tool to measure it.

xskyzx, It's odd that it would get cloudy after waiting so long to raise the dosage. Maybe just dose 1x/day for now & then raise it to 2x.

i see bc i split it 2x a day one in the morning and 1 @ night.
Were you dosing 1/4 tsp twice a day for a total of 1/2 tsp per day?

Actually everyting is fine in my tank but it seems like the zoo s like it so what the hell :-) and i have a digital food scale so i can measure a 1/8 th and half it. and ya i do top off so ill just mix it with that.
thanks for the reply

Shouldn't need much then in a 6g to show some improvement of healthy zoas. Should do wonders on keeping nitrate in check (0). I know that can be difficult in a small tank.

You can dose with calcium or magnesium ascorbate but the Sodium ascorbate is the cheapest. It is totally different than our dosing for calcium. It won't raise your calcium at all.

i found a bottle of calcium supplement 600mg in my gf mom's medicine cabinet :). In the back label it reads ingredient: calcium carbonate, mineral oil, glycerin..etc. Can i still use it?

Absolutely not. None of those are the correct chemical & theee is no vitamin c even in those ingredints. Human suppliments are full of fillers (mineral oil, glycerin..etc) you don't want in your reef tank. The sodium absorbate crystal form we are using is a pure, buffered form of VC.
