theres only 1 health food store that may have it that i can check tomorrow . this bottle is 1 ounces and has 1250mg total.how should i dose it ?it says 20 ml for 50 gallons the dropper is a 20 ml dropper. so i put in 4 drops i think thats correct dose per manufacturer .. how woul dyou dose this until i can find the other stuff?

The VC we use here has 1112mg vc in 1/4 tsp. You'd have to pour the entire bottle in! I'd go get your $$$ back on that stuff. Look for sodium ascorbate, calcium ascorbate or magnesium ascorbate. Nothing else should be in the product.

Hey pufferpunk.I have been following your thread on hear and on another forum and it is alot to read.I am going to get the powder that you are dosing. My tank is a 55 gallon with a 20 gallon sump. How much should i dose to start and then after a while. And what are the proper ppm would i want to be at daily. Thanks Mike!

I'm afraid there must be something else wrong with your tank. I can't guarantee VC will save zoas that are just too far gone but it will definately not kill your LPS. Mine are better than ever, even doaing at 23ppm.

Could be. I am going to stop dosing just to see what happens. If they start to improve in a few days I will start at the lower dosing you recommended (1/4 tsp 2x's a day) and see what happens.

triggerfreak, If you're just dosing only for enhancement of your corals, start wiith 1/4 tsp & raise to 1/2 tsp after 4 days (2x/day). If your happy with the results, keep it at that. Add to your sump.

great thanks .now since it contains "sodium" should i keep an eye on my salinity? mabe thats a dumb question just want to make sure. ill pick that up first thing in the morning and be sure to have before and after pics to contribute to your thread

The amount of sodium (or mag or ca) in those products is negligible & will have absolutely no affect on your tank's parameters.

Pufferpunk - Have you found that the frequency or duration of what I'll call the random Zoa/Paly "cranky" time has decreased with VC dosing? I always seem to have at least one colony or frag that closes up for some # of days (maybe its cleaning or something) but re-opens eventually no worse for its cranky time. My LOTRs are this week's cranky colony. They've been closed for 3 days or so now.

Just to put my 2 cents in, i have been dosing for about 4 weeks, and have had nothing but great success. Start slow, i brought mine up to 5ppm over 2 weeks, and have stayed there. and honestly guys the math is simple, and dont waste your time trying Vit. c with additives. just get the sodium absorbate from i-herb, its buffered and everyone i know who has used it has had great results. jmo but if you are thinking about this then read the WHOLE thread. then ask questions, but i am sure if you read it then you will have all your questions awnsered.

-been reading these vit.c threads for WEEKS good going guys, nothing is more fun than attempting the unknown and seeing a benifit!

Great advice Ncastro1981. It seems that the people that are having problems either are not dosing the correct amount, dosing too much too fast, or have the wrong product. The sodium ascorbate from Iherb.com is proven in this thread, to work if used properly.
There have been a lot of new people trying it that dont have time to cruise thru the split thread to find out the correct way to dose so I am going to add a summery to get people going:

Use this product:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails...293197697039798
$5 0ff coupon code: LUL789

1/4 tsp=1112 mg.

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC
Dose 2x/day.

Be sure your pH and alk are within normal reef limits before starting.
Shoot for a ppm of around 5 if only dosing for improved coral growth, coloration, and spread. Shoot for higher amounts up to 30 ppm if you are having melting zoas or closed zoas and look for the causes of your problems as you dose. Check for high nitrates, pests, zoa pox, predators, and unstable water conditions.
Dose low amounts and increase the amount slowly over the course of a few days to a couple weeks.
If you notice an algae bloom or increased skim on your glass then cut back by half until it disappears.
Watch your skimmer, it will start to skim more.
Dose the amount twice a day in a fast moving area of your sump or overflow. I dilute the vitamin c in ro/di water for a minute then pour into my overflow. If adding to sump, try and add the vitamin c after filtration such as skimmers and reactors.
If you have a question, ask here. Puffy checks this thread daily.

Be sure to take some "before" pics!

As far as the dosing goes has anyone noticed if you need more on a heavily stocked tank vs lightly stocked? Reason for asking is my setup is 900 but my display is 375. So the amount of organisms using the VC would be limited to the display? Just a thought

I personally see no difference. I am dosing very high into my frag tank, which isn't densly populated & very low doses in my corner softie tank (dosing only for nitrate control), which is pretty filled.

Ok Im on my third day of dosing. Already I noticed a difference. Is the Vit C
suppose to work on SPS too? Cause my orange monticap is becoming a brighter
Orange as the days go on...ive never seen it like that.. My zoas all look great too...
The color in the tank is just popping...

Ive been mixing the Vit C in a small cup of tank water and dumping directly into the
main tank.

I didnt expect it to work this fast... ; ) Thanks Puffer...

I thought it was just my imaginagion at 1st too but it's for real! Might also have something to do with better water clarity for the SPS. Is your skimmer going nuts?

PLEASE EVERYONE TAKE BEFORE & AFTER PICS!!!

As far as SPS im not sure...All I know is that when I changed my lighting from
my 14,000k MH to my T5's...for some reason my Orange monticap turned a darker
orange...which bummed me out. All of a sudden after 3 days of dosing the Vit C,
the orange is becoming real bright again...So im wondering if the Vit C works just
as good on SPS???

Skimmer is going coo coo crazy!!!...lol
