ya dont understand but my zoas look really happy

The reason you may see a slight decrease still comes from your buffered VC having a pH of 7.2 or so when you add it to the tank.

I really don't think at the dosages most folks are doing here, that this buffered product with a pH of 7.1 added to the tank is going to make much of a difference. Now adding a product with a pH of 4...

ya i dont think its the vitamin c my tank is still working its self out. I think it might have todo with the lack of air flow in my room

dosing question: long story short i was over dosing and not knowing it.

I thought i was using a 1/2tbs tool and it was acually a 1tbs, so i thought i was dosing 1/4-1/2tbs x2 daily and i was acually dosing 1/2-3/4tbs x2 daily

What would th effects do. I stopped dosing and doing water changes, but one SPS has losts its color sont know if its dead or in shock

You may want to check to make sure your VC is buffered. If so then I would recommend cutting down to no more than 1/4tsp per 100 gallons. So far many people note a significant growth or improvement with zoos at a dose lower than this.

I have dosed as much as 1 tbsp to my 90g (~100g total water volume) with no issues to the corals. This was after a year of dosing lesser amounts (1-2 tsps). I have also dosed as high as 100ppm (1/4 tsp for 15g) in my frag tank to treat zoapox & recommend doses as high as that for treating Lateral Line disease & Crypt.

Yes, while this has been mentioned as a treatment the reason you can go so high is because you've worked your nitrates to low levels. Since VC seems labile in its ability to spur bacteria dosing 1tbsp could be beneficial. However, for people starting off they need to start slower than what is recommended unless they don't have detectable nitrates and phosphates. Otherwise, there is the chance they will have issues with water cloudiness, potential corals bleaching, and fish suffocating.

okay, well i was using the stuff pufferpunk recommended from iherb, so it was bufferede to 7.1 i think.

I will have to look else were to figure out why my SPS lost its color and just continue to dose 1/4tbs now i caught my mistake.

Thanks for the info

Genetics, Are you dosing now?

Yes, I am currently dosing 0.05ppm twice a day.

Tank situation: Small algae issue on some of my rocks. Dealing with another algae, dictyota, that happens to love sps conditions.

I have a few zoa colonies that are not doing super hot. Some do great others im not getting the growth and polyp size I want.

Same with my sps. Some have amazing color, like my cali tort but others are not letting out their true potential.

Other than this I have no major problem in my tank, things are going pretty good but I want to see if dosing vitamin c can make things better. I am hoping that over time it will cure some of the problems that I have mentioned.

Note: I did the priority shipping (im impatient when it comes to shipping) and they got the linked product to ohio in 3 days! I figured I might as well do this since I got the 5 off coupon (thanks for that!).

Just started dosing 2x a day. Today is day two of dosing 1/4tsp. 2x a day in my 90g (110g total).

So far I have noticed that my skimmer is pulling more out. Usually in the morning the bubbles are just fizzing at the very top with no foam creation. This is usually because I have not fed in such a long time (early the day before).

This morning I notice the skimmer is pulling out a nice foam! Not 100% if it is due to the vitamin c.

So far no changes in the tank. I only have a couple zoas that do not look so hot. They were frags I bought that were pretty freshly cut.

I will try and get some before and after shots!

Also, a thanks to puffer, genetics, and the rest of the people who have stuck with the tread and pioneered the movement on this forum.

I doubt you will see anything happen at that low of a dose Genetics.

Any specific reason I might not see results? If you look at the literature for fish they were finding increased resistance to disease at 30mg/kg weight. If I have a 3-4gram fish, I need only 0.10ppm. But that's assuming it is being absorbed from the water, which I haven't found any literature saying that it would be. There are plenty of people that state they see effects at 2ppm with VC. Why does it have to be 30ppm? The fact people are seeing benefits at 2ppm means that they could be over dosing. Besides, looking at DOC concentrations of a reef ecosystem you rarely find concentrations over 1ppm unless you want coral bleaching. DOCs are rather complex but I'm interested in seeing if there are effects that don't mess with total DOC concentrations greatly.

Wow, this is a great thread, but just so much info. I have a 20L with zoas and was wondering if dosing with vitamin C would be useful or just doing my weekly WC would be just as good?

As I'm reading through most of the post, all I'm seeing is larger tank and not any considered nanos. If I do begin dosing, what would be the recommended dosage?

Thanks

I copied and pasted the dosing requirements into Word, printed it out, and then cut and taped them right onto the bottle of Vitamin C.
