Treating with Vitamin C

Another stupid question, but I couldn't find it easily looking through the pages. Do you have to mix the VC with water first, or just add the powder? Can you premix the liquid and set up through a metering pump?

You can add it dry but it only takes a few seconds to disolve. Premixing wont work since it degrades quickly when exposed to water and air.

what do you mean it degrades? I'm still debating this. I have heard a lot of negatives, like tank crashes and such...

My main reason is to get my zoos' colors back...

Heres what I do. I take the bottle out of the fridge, add 3/4 tsp to a couple ounces of tank water and stir it as I walk over to the tank. I then pour it into my sump near the return pumps. I do this first thing in the morning and again at dinner time.

Jeff, You don't dose with the lights out? I dump 1 tsp directly into the sump in the morning & about midnight, before bed.

Anyone creating a brine and providing a slow continuous flow?

Won a Reefkeeper Elite at MACNA and now looking for all the funky uses.

Is there any more information how Vitamin C breaks down when exposed to air or moisture? I'm curious what it is degrading into with exposure to air.

I've reached the 1 week mark now at 1ppm, I'm going to start dosing at 2ppm now as I continue to slowly raise the amount. So far so good though. I took pictures for documentation but there is little change in the tank so far (after all it's only been a week) so I won't bother posting them.

I forgot all about that article. It's really good information but we have come a long way since it was published. The author keeps talking about how acidic the product is but a few pinchs at a ph of 7.1 isnt going to do much to the ph of the tank like he claims it might (unless I read that wrong).
The refinements made in the last couple years in this thread have really helped a lot. I like how he suggests going on and off VC which is what I have been doing for the last few months.
