Treatment not working, things getting worse

Absolutely agree with Gary and AR... 5 is at the high end for Mags. I run a denitrator on my system just for my mag to keep trates undetectable. Really is crucial for mags and gigs...

You can run trates at 25+ and keep lots of things alive... Thriving and living are different though. Those things are like AR listed... Lps, yumas, zoas, fish...You will never keep a mag or gig or haddoni living with nitrates that high.

Do you have anyone who could take it in temporarily?

Can you post a pick? If it's getting better it should be inflated with a puckered mouth.

And DD treats all mags with Cipro hence maybe the slow response but many have success with multiple treatments of cipro as long as the water is pristine...

FWIW, I have been having all sorts of trouble with the DD mag I bought last month. Treated it with Cipro at 250, then septra, and then Cipro at 500. Looked really good initially after first treatment, but did not hold. Debating whether to try once more or not, but nem looks pretty ragged.

Not trying to start an argument, necessarily, but while nitrates may be important to avoid during acclimation, you absolutely can maintain mags in nitrates well above 5 - I've done it on multiple occasions. Clearly low nitrates ought to be the goal for all reef keepers, but they are not the boogeyman IME that many assume.

Thanks, I don't think this nem is responding t Cypro I may have to try septra and see. It looked inflate this morning and started moving off of the piece of tile that DD shipped it on so not sure if that's a good sign or not.

Sick anemone look bad then good , then bad again. Don't change treatment from day to day, but use trending of the anemone as guide. I would use 500 mg Cipro for 10 gal of water. If not better after a few days than see if you can change to Trim/Sulfa. Just don't switch from one treatment to the next from day to day. Best of luck

Thank you sir

Did this nem make it? I ask again because I think it is very important to keep track of both successes and failures under varying conditions so we can try to zero in on the true keys to success with these nems.

There is a lot of bad info in this thread!

Mags can stand high Nitrate for one, two never suggest upping dosage without understanding what you are dealing with.

Up the dosage to 500 mg cipro... What are the params of the HT? Temp water movement and light? I would use DT water for your changes.... I never change more than 50% while in the HT seems to work better

The issue with using DT water is that the cipro will kill all the beneficial bacterial and can cause the water to deteriorate prematurely.
