Tricks to quiet external pumps?

I am actively building a large (~1500G) reef system which has 5 reeflo pumps (2 hammerhead golds, 2 barracuda golds, and a tarpon) in a dedicated filtration room but the room is next to the livingroom where the display tanks are located: I am worried about noise/vibration. Any tricks to quiet the pumps besides placing them on rubber mats? Any plumbed in a silicone segment to decrease vibration?

You can always mount the pump to plywood using rubber grommets in the mounting plate. I have my BL55 beside my tank for my skimmer and built a little plywood housing for it, with proper ventilation of course - works fairly well.

Set them on neoprene (westsuit material). The thicker the better. Some just get a neoprene mouse pad and glue it to the bottom of the pump mounting plate. The reeflo pumps are pretty quiet to begin with though 5 is definately going to create some ambient pump noise.

Make sure you insulate the walls between the fish room and your living room. On the fish room side, use a layer of drywall followed by a layer of sound proofing drywall. Or double up on the sound stuff. I would even change the drywall to sound proof stuff on the living room side as well. Use a solid core door between the rooms. Don't allow any pipes to touch the walls as that will create noise as well. Adding some flex PVC in there can also help to eliminate vibrations in the plumbing.

I would also use soft plumbing for the first foot from inlet and outlet. The flexi stuff allows the pumps to vibrate a little if they have to without adding and vibration noise through the plumbing nor any unneccessary stress on the pump.

i am wondering the same thing... i have a panworld 200 ps and it looks like i will cut the pvc and replace it with tubing... that shoud stop the vibration,

I attached a Dart to a 1" thich cement cap block by drilling the block and countersinking the hole on the underside. I ran a bolt thru the Dart flange, into the hole, and secured it underneath with the nut. I also sandwiched a neoprene mouse pad between the Dart and the block. The mass of the block with the neoprene sandwich absorbed any vibrations. It ran silently.

I just bought a sheet of 1/2" Neoprene and a 25ft roll of flex PVC on Amazon: thanks, everyone, for their help . . . actually, mostly my wife is thanking you.:D

I have a Barracude with the Baldor pump and it is incredibly loud. I have a piece of rubber (used on the floor for people who are on their feet a lot) under the pump and it did not help much at all. I was wondering if maybe I need to do this under the sump, possibly vibration is runnign through the plumbing to the tank?
