Tridacna Desera with Holes in Shell

I just received a 3" Desera from Diver's Den and there is a small hole on the side of each shell. I remember reading in one of my books that clams with holes should be avoided. What are the holes a sign of and should I contact Diver's Den and request a replacement (at thier cost)?

holes in the shell can be caused by a few different snails or worms. as long as what ever made them is now gone and the clam looks good it should do ok

Thanks! The clam looks fine from my perspective. I was kind of strange though. This morning when I check in on him, (before any light) he was wide open. My other clam (Crocea) that I have had for a few weeks now was always closed with no light. The Desera does not appear to be gaping, just open. Just part of acclimating you think?

if its new i would give it some time. post some photos if you can

There are scavengers within your tank who will exploit those holes if allowed too. Contact LA and tell them what the issue is and why you consider it an issue, because I'm sure that they would like to know (I've contacted them and gotten them to change things on their web site) and if I were ypou I would put some reef safe epoxy over the holes (the clam can handle being taken out of the water and patted dry) to protect the clam, but some might disagree with that method, and it could look pretty bad.
