Tristian's Reef : 325 Gallon Build Prbly Flooding the Floor Again...

Floodicus Maximus Flooris
Hi,
I'm Tristian aka Asonitez. I have a problem.I flood floors (Floodicus Floorus Maximus). - There I said it. My wife (Reefus Wifus Hotticus) despite her better judgement allowed me to buy a tank. So I bought a tank and made a build thread.

187 Funky Dimension Prbly Gonna Flood Floors Build.

After not flooding the floors for a whole 8 months. I flooded the floor. (Just a little bit.)

https://youtu.be/J655yrjS8ys

Later that night - my wife turned to me and said. I think you went too small. That tank is nice but its already growing out and your completely out of space. I don't like how it doesn't take up the entire stand either. You should get a new one.

I immediately jumped on the coach website, ordered a nice clutch purse, and a 200 dollar gift card to ULTA in her name. I also called her mom and told her she raised a good daughter, and I don't mind the beatings she gives me because I know its because she loves me. --domestic abuse is no joke kids..--

I also went to my office upstairs and started planning my new build. This will be the last build. It's scary to say that but it will literally be the largest tank that I can fit in the space my wife gave me and afford. Yes that's right... My Sugar Mama set a budget. So I guess I'll have to get the rest from my girlfriend....reminds me I need to order another purse.

Here is my Display as it stands a Day ago and some of the Adventures I will be getting up to to support the build!

I went through that same progression, I had carpet....flooded the floors stained the carpet, put in wood floors (dumb idea)....flooded the floors warped the planks, put in wood looking tile.... GREAT IDEA!!! flooded the floors... mopped it up.. life was good... Lessons learned make you wiser. Just wished I didn't have to learn all this the hard way!!! It does seem like you went overboard with the frag plugs, that tank would have had a lot of territory disputes resulting in biological warfare. Good luck, hope you have success with this one.

I run goodncarbon and no territory disputes to speak of. I also like the plugs because it lets me reposition frags or entire colonies if I like. A lot of the old corals have overgrown their plugs and I can hardly see them anymore! The newer more recent stuff are what you see.

I didn’t flood the floors badly only about 5 gallons and no warping thank god.

I was talking in the future, I've done it, I've seen many do it as well. We're like a kid in the candy store, not knowing when too much is enough. When that tank matured... 3-4 years from now, you would have some serious biological warfare, to the point no carbon can help...

Just a quick update today. I have started working with my stand maker to design and build my stand. My existing stand is around 40" high. After all is said and done this gave me quite a bit of working distance inside of the stand to do things.
This time around the tank will be 26 vs 24" high. Those extra 2" + the 3/4" Plywood and 1/2" foam will make for a VERY high tank.

I'm thinking of making the sand 36" Tall. Do you guys think that this is too short? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to find out what people hated about their stands. I don't know many people WITH aluminum or Steel stands and I'm hoping to
get a few tips and pointers of what to look out for.

Finally - Here is the SUMP that I have ordered and will be using: It measures: 60 x 22 x 16 tall

My EXISTING sump is 54 X 24 X 18 (it has a 12" chamber for ATO which reduces the over all size of ACTUAL sump area).
Although using the synergy overflow for this tank I WON'T have that much "backfill" going into the sump when I CUT my return off . Any tips in this area?

I ran through doing an aluminum frame for a 200DD tank, forgot the total cost but the beams were fine, it was when all the fasteners added in, any sort of holes being tapped, etc, that it got to the point where I say "screw it, I'll do it out of wood" (although the kid in me wants to build it anyways). That said isn't 45mm overkill? Seems like an awfully thick amount to go for aluminum.

I'd be careful with the feet on the stand- you'll be concentrating your tank weight over the 6 small points of contact. It might cause big issues depending on your choice of flooring.

My flooring is thick hardwood on a concrete slab. Glued NOT floating. Think I will still have a problem?

That Sump is AWESOME!!! I wish I had the room/patience/$$$ to do something like this!

The stand is complete and shipped today.
The sump is almost done but not ready. There was an issue with the first protype which required a rebuild.
